Diverse town outside London

Hi everyone, a sister needs your help.
I currently work and live in North London with my family. 3 boys under 6. I want to move out of London but still be working in North London. I was interested in Bromley/Orpington initially, but house prices her higher and not near my budget (300k). I have no other places in mind as I don't know much. Have only live in North London since expect university life outside. I want somewhere I can drive maximum 1hrs to work.
Am black and a Muslim, so I do take into account about been stereotype. I want to live somewhere safe and a bit diverse and for my family to feel welcome. In addition to good school. (Hope am not asking for much). I know Harlow is closer but everyone is saying to avoid it. Honestly have been there and not looking good. Please help. I will be reading all comment . Thank you all.

Tough combo of low budget and travel time to North London there, wouldn't be an easy drive from that far south and costs tend to go up when you're north. Might be worth looking at the towns on the northern stretch of the Thameslink line, like Luton, or Bedford. Or places in that direction like Watford. The more sizeable places will be more diverse.

How far north is work? Do you have to drive? I think an hour tops from anywhere within your budget is likely to be pushing it, to be honest. Friends moved to Bedford a year ago - they were unsure at first both because of its reputation for being a bit dull and because they’re a mixed race couple, but are really happy and settled there.

@ComtesseDeSpair, yes I do drive and work in Enfield. Wouldn't mind 1.15mins drive

I have heard Luton, Milton Keynes and Bedford are quite diverse and could fit your budget too.
