Tenancy agreement advice needed

I’ve never rented here before so was wondering if someone could give me some advice.

I recently made a rental application on a flat, paid an initial deposit, checks went through fine etc.

When making my application I had put the 26th Oct as my move in date.

I then received a tenancy agreement contract, which I hadn’t signed, instead I emailed back requesting to change my tenancy start date to a week later. (I phrased it tenancy start date because it’s not just the case of wanting to just move in later, I was hoping to not have to pay an extra week of rent when I’m not in the property if that makes sense).

The agency said it’s fine for me to change my move in date but haven’t mentioned changing my tenancy start date or sent me a tenancy agreement revised contract.

I don’t know if it’s unreasonable to not for me to ask again if I can change the tenancy start date to avoid paying an extra week of rent.

They don't care when you moved in, they want you to start paying rent.

You can ask again but if you put oct 26th on your application they will have chosen you on this assumption. A week's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things but if they turned down others who had later start dates then they may not want to accommodate you.

I would be 99% sure that the letting agent is using the term move in date as a synonym for the start of the tenancy. Having a move in date that is separate from the start of the tenancy isn't really a thing. It would probably throw up some legal complexities with things like insurance/council tax too.

I would just ask them to send you a revised tenancy agreement to reflect the new move in date. It's probably been forgotten or they haven't got round to it.
