My quartz splashback just cracked

Confused

I was cooking and I heard an almighty CRACK sound. The quartz splashback now has a massive crack in it.

How did that happen? And can it be repaired without having to replace the whole thing?

Has it cracked where the cooker is? It may be possible to cut a section out aligned with the cooker edges, and put a new piece in. If it is by the cooker it may be the heat that caused it to crack, in which case having it in sections can reduce the stresses.

I should say this is based on a limestone hearth that was installed in three sections to allow for expansion, and me applying the same logic to a splashback could be complete rubbish!

Thank you @TwoLeftSocksWithHoles

It's not that near the cooker. I was cooking at the time so I felt it to see if it was heat but no it was cold as normal. So strange.

I've found a couple of worktop repair places so I've left enquiries. Hopefully it won't be too expensive to sort out 😩
