Renovating bathroom

Hi Mumsnetters! DH and I are currently renovating our new house before we move in. DH wants me to pick out everything for the bathroom, including any tiles, the actual bath and sink unit etc. We are both new in the renovation game. Where do I start? Can anyone recommend any good websites. Is it better to buy as a suite or individually? How do I ensure things we buy match/look good? I'm a real novice! Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I use bathstore.com quite a bit, though recently bought stuff from bathroom mountain. Some sell baths and matching sink and toilets, but I like a plain modern sanitary ware: L shaped bath (or straight if no room), a combined sink/toilet, and I match the bath and sink taps. Tiles - spoilt for choice. I like tile mountain, porcelain tile company, topps tiles...
Amazon for towel rails (I like matt white).

That's the combined unit I mention - space saving, storage, and helps cleaning as no nooks and crannies. Comes in several widths and finishes, but I always go for white.

Decide what look you want (modern/traditional etc) then have a look round at Victoria Plum, Bathstore etc.

We've just done ours in a Victorian style, white and black tiles, chrome taps etc.

I went on the Victoria Plum website, and they had this feature where you could build your own bathroom in 3D. It was using all the stock they sold, and I've never done it before, but it was so useful as it gave me a sense of what I want, and where things will go. I'll be getting the majority of my new bathroom from there (that's if my purchase of this house ever completes!).

We've just finished refurbing our bathroom. I found Pinterest very useful for ideas / looks and sort if went from there. As well as Bathstore and Victoria plum, there's also Victorian Plumbing (I always get the two confused!).

Also worth visiting independent bathroom showrooms for inspiration, if you have any near you.

Finally, if you see something you like on one of the big suppliers' websites, Google it and chances are you'll get it much, much cheaper. We chose RAK toilet and sinks, and made some real savings this way.

BTW, your plumber/ fitter should be able to pick up all the pipes/ connectors etc. We just concentrated on bath, shower, sinks, taps and loo.

This is our new bathroom. We love it!

What era is the property?
What look do you want to go for? Traditional/ modern/ hotel etc?
What are you working with/ how is the current layout?

Take a look on Pinterest / Google bathroom trends. see what stands out to you…

Look at bathrooms on Pinterest or instagram to decide what you like or don't like. Elle Decoration has a bathroom special this month. It's all high end but worth a look for ideas. Once you have thought about what you like it should be easier to focus on a smaller selection when it's time to buy.

For tiles I went in person to pick ( toppstiles). For the shower , toilet, sink and mirror I bought online without actually seeing them first . I went through Victoria plumb. I was a bit nervous buying that way but my husband and I loved how it turned out .

Look on Pinterest for inspiration if you are really clueless with what you want . When I started looking through Pinterest I realised a common theme with my favourites.
