Building quote

Honestly willing to pay if it's a reasonable quote. It's just that this is my first home so I've just never paid for these kind of works before so hoping for some advice. Especially since I hear stories of trades people over quoting for jobs they don't want.

Basically, a meter high garden wall wants rebuilding, about a meter across. The top already fell off (thankfully no one was hurt). Quoted £200 for this.

Need a new gate too. The current one is insecure and rickety and not suitable for keeping my pets in or other people's pets out. Quoted £100 for this.

I've seen the person's work (he is a neighbor and has been doing his own home recently).

Quote is for materials and labour. What do the wise folks of mums net think?

Depends where you are but I personally would bite his hand off, especially if you have seen his work and it's decent.

That sounds cheap. It’s incredibly difficult to get tradesman to quote for any small jobs at the moment as they’re overrun. I’d bite his hand off.

Another one who would bite his hand off. £300 all in is a bargain. Not to mention how lucky you are to have a local tradesman who is decent and willing to do small jobs with short notice.

Round my way you'd struggle to get anyone out to quote, and then those who do come out will disappear never to be heard from again.

BritInUS1 · 16/10/2021 17:13

That sounds like a bargain

Those are amazing prices, if you are sure his quality of work is good, say yes please!

For context, a small brick wall at the front of my property approx 1.5m high x 2m wide was knocked down by a car (not ours) and the insurance company have sent us a cheque for £1200 to get it replaced.

HappyTimeTunnelDinosaur · 16/10/2021 17:17

Sounds like an amazing bargain!

ArtfulScreamer · 16/10/2021 17:51

Sounds a bargain sure my mum paid £700 for a wall at the front of her house about a metre high by about 2 metres

Sugarandtime · 16/10/2021 17:57

I wouldn’t hang around in accepting their quote,

flippertyop · 16/10/2021 17:58

That sounds cheap to me also

I'm in Yorkshire.

He and his fellow builder mate have recently rebuilt their own garden boundaries and gate and look like a bobby dazzler. (we are Victorian terraces that I don't think have been touched since they were built so are all in need of some TLC).

I shall get the jobs done.

Thanks everyone. X
