Putting a roof on a conservatory?

We had a leaflet through from a company that puts aluminium panels in the conservatory roof to insulate it, so that it's warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer.

I'd love this as we try to use to conservatory as a dining room but often it's just too hot or too cold to be a comfortable room and keep the doors closed most of the time.

Has anyone does this and is it worth it? Does it look ugly? Is it worth the loss of light? I was also considering just replacing it with a proper extension rather than a conservatory, getting rid of the doors in between ans opening up the whole space, but I'm finding it hard to get a quote for that. The room is about 3x4m.

What have you done with your conservatories? Would love inspiration as I'm stuck on what to do

My parents did something like this, but they had the roof plastered and some sort of light tile put on. They now use the room more than any other

Obviously I mean ceiling plastered! Not the roof 🤦🏼‍♀️

We just had a quote for an aluminium i automated roof (lighter than the current glass so foundations don’t need work) for a 3 x 5 conservatory it was £13k!!!! No way we can afford that. Think the previous owners only paid £14k a couple of years ago for the whole conservatory!!

Not automated - that was supposed to be insulated!

We just had a lightweight roof on our conservatory, also had all the glass replaced, it is so much nicer than before. It was over 10k though. We had a velux put in the roof to add light.

I'm getting a solid roof put in my conservatory at present. Its 3.75m by 3.75m with a box gutter and some electrics It is costing £11k.
The old roof came off today and the new roof is sort of on. There is a 2nd day tomorrow to finish the main roof. Then plastering and electrics. Its been really dull day here so difficult to know if theres been a drop in light in the lounge (if there has its fairly small).

Hi there, just wondering if your conservatory is timber? How have you found the change?
