I live in an old 1900's terrace. We have changed the things we can to help increase its thermal efficiency but its still not great with heat loss.
I have now found out that my fixed energy deal is ending and I was shocked to see that our price will be going from £100 per month to £250 per month, and thats just for starters.
At the moment the house doesn't have extractor fans. We air the bathroom after showers through the window.
Would adding an extractor fan make a big enough difference to be worth while to a heating bill?
Another question is - I am confused by the current advise online from Martin Lewis and the energy companies.
Martin Lewis says do not fix in a new deal and go with standard rate due to the energy price cap.
All energy companies I have looked into are suggesting fixing for 2 years to prevent further shock rises.
The fixed rates are astronomical and totally unaffordable for us.
But if I dont fix, will the standard rate become unaffordable too?
Will all of this not surely improve at some point?
We were just planning on moving as we have out grown our house, but this eats into affordability massively.
