Mattress recomendations

Hello

I need to order a new mattress for our guest room, that will arrive before Christmas - I say this as i was just quoted 8 months for a dining table I like!

Don't want to spend a fortune and would rather order online.

I was thinking Ikea? but happy to be persuaded otherwise...

I always spent a fortune on mattresses but when I was short on storage I put 2 inexpensive mattresses on top of each other plus some toppers, and it is the most comfy mattress ever.

SpindleWhirl · 12/10/2021 15:17

I just recently saw a mattress thread on here recommending IKEA, and the £200-ish one seemed popular.

confusedlots · 12/10/2021 15:18

I think it's really difficult to order a mattress online. I just bought one for our rental house, didn't want to spend a fortune but wanted it to be decent. I just spent a morning going round the bigger chains and some smaller independent shops trying the out. Some of the more expensive ones felt really cheap and uncomfortable so I think it would have been impossible to buy online and know what you're getting. Best option was a small independent shop, reasonable price, really comfortable, free delivery within 1 week.

We have an Emma mattress and it’s brilliant, so comfortable. I think they offer a 100 night money back guarantee, so you can try it out at home. No idea what the lead times are at the mo though!

WoolyMammoth55 · 12/10/2021 16:21

We have Warren Evans for us and Ikea for the kids & guest rooms.

Honestly for the price I don't think you can beat Ikea, they are great!

Bramshott · 12/10/2021 16:28

Aren't Ikea ones slightly different bed sizes? I always thought they wouldn't work with a bed frame from elsewhere.

We used www.mynextmattress.co.uk/ who do a no-quibble return of anything you don't get on with (though you pay for the return). We ended up with a Harrison Amber Medium, although I am slightly embarrassed to admit that that was the 4th one we trialled... Blush

Ikea Hovag!

serene12 · 12/10/2021 16:41

We just got a new double mattress from John Lewis online, it only cost £79.
We didn’t want to spend a lot of money, as it’s in the guest room. Positive feedback so far.

YouHaveNoAuthorityHereJackie · 12/10/2021 16:44

IKEA all the way here. Our small dc has it on their new double bed and we’ve had horrific sickness bug in the house meaning we took turns to sleep in with her. It’s an incredibly good mattress considering at about £100 it’s about 30 times cheaper than our John Lewis superking one Shock

Mizydoscape · 12/10/2021 19:07

Just taken delivery of an IKEA Hovag it's fantastic. They do ikea size double/King but also standard double/king sizes. Delivery cost is a killer though vs the actual cost of the mattress!

Shmithecat2 · 12/10/2021 19:07

I love my Emma mattress!

CherryMaple · 12/10/2021 19:27

SIMBA

hotchocdrinker · 12/10/2021 20:28

Another vote for IKEA here. We have the hamarvik which is cheaper than the hovag. It's certainly better that John Lewis's basic one. And IKEA do
Uk as well as European sizes.

ISaidDontLickTheBin · 12/10/2021 20:43

We've got an Eve hybrid mattress. Love it.

dudsville · 12/10/2021 20:48

@CherryMaple

SIMBA
Are you really happy with it? We just got one and aren't sure. We were going for a firmer mattress.
TobyHouseMan · 13/10/2021 10:33

Another vote for an IKEA MORGEDAL. I was shocked really as we bought these for the KIDS and it was just as good as the Emma we had on our bed. They deliver too.

CherryMaple · 13/10/2021 10:39

@dudsville

Yes the SIMBA suits us. We weren’t looking for a firm mattress. We’re really pleased with them (we’ve got 2).

SollaSollew · 13/10/2021 14:40

Not sure how much you'd consider a fortune but we have recently got a John Lewis climate collection mattress and it's far and away the comfiest mattress I've ever had, it's both supportive but also soft, I absolutely love it. Ours was the more expensive 2000 spring one but they do a cheaper 1200 spring one that we tried in the shop and will be getting for our guest room (if I can ever get my ds out of there!)

Thanks Cherry.

CherryMaple · 13/10/2021 18:49

@dudsville

Presumably you are within the 200 day return period? I think they say allow 30 nights for it to ‘bed in’? Hope you get sorted.
