Hot water cylinder has leak so has been drained by plumber. Will my washing machine work?

Hi, just that really. I'm awaiting a quote to either replace my hot water cylinder or get a combi boiler, so i'm going to be without hot water for a few days. My washing machine has hot and cold hoses so it would try to draw water from the tank, which has been shut off temporarily. Am I right in thinking it would not be a good idea to do some washing? The plumber didn't say... Thanks

Are your hot taps supplying cold water or doing nothing at the moment? Assuming they're at least supplying cold water, I suspect the washing machine may well work. It almost certainly incorporates a heating element as very few domestic hot water systems will supply water at the temperatures needed for the hottest washes.

Give it a try, and perhaps feel the outside of the machine partway through to see if it's warm. What's the worst that could happen?

When I had a previous hot and cold fill washer I had to use a setting to turn on the hot fill, have you something similar?

Thanks for the replies so far, no I don't have a setting to turn on the hot fill as far as I can see. It has two pipes, one for red, one for blue. Nothing coming out of the hot kitchen sink tap at all. I'd be worried about trying it with the machine in case it caused some sort of air lock and wrecked the machine. Maybe i'm best not to risk it the luck i'm having this week and just go to the launderette instead. Thankyou both

Can you switch off the hot water feed to the machine - so turn the lever so it’s perpendicular to the hose? That’s assuming you can access the feeder hoses - mine used to be under the sink beside the machine.

My Bosch machine feeds cold water from the mains in the kitchen.
I was told in John Lewis that machines don’t have a hot water feed, the machine heats it up.
