Just wondered if anyone could share current rates for recent work from a decorater / handyman.
Possibly looking at £20ph for handyman &
£150 a day for decorater

It depends on where you are, but I have paid £150 a day for a decorator recently in London.

PoshWatchShitShoes · 04/10/2021 21:37

Home Counties. £150-175 a day for a decorator. £20-30 per hour for a handyman, minimum 2 hours.

We pay £180 per day for our handyman, it is a lot, but he is fab and does so much in a day! We are in a very expensive part of SW London though, so I'm sure daily rates are less elsewhere in the country.

£120 a day for a decorator in the North.

the £20 an hour (which by my reckoning = £150 a day) seems fairly standard from the one or two quotes I have received for works recently here in Hampshire, slightly less per hour for decorating if lots of rooms. Difference for us seems to be whether decorators are happy to buy the paint themselves or want us to buy for them

MazzleDazzle · 04/10/2021 22:51

Around here they both charge £20 per hour. We had a gardener recently and he charged the same.

gogohm · 04/10/2021 22:58

Handyman is £12 an hour but he's only useful for diy type stuff I'm too lazy to do eg IKEA furniture assembly. Skilled decorator £150 a day though I have a free one, daddy dearest!

Our decorator is £140 a day. South Yorkshire.

Zeflyinghelmetandzevetcelery · 05/10/2021 06:51

Recently had two quotes from handymen. £280 per day or part thereof and £29 per hour. Scottish city. Didn't realise how cheeky the former was until I read this thread!

WellTidy · 05/10/2021 07:15

SE here - recently paid £180/day for a decorator, we provide the paint. A day was about 8 hours long including a lunch break.

ChristopherTracy · 05/10/2021 10:25

Cost is same as upthread maybe a little bit more. More problematic is getting hold of anyone!

Hebeee · 05/10/2021 13:44

Recently moved from England to Wales and were used to paying SE rates. Here in Wales (rural), handymen charge as little as £10-15 per hour and skilled builders (not decorators, but guess they could be even less) between £120-£150 per day. Gardeners between £70-£100 per day.

Know someone locally who balked at paying £30 for a 2hr minimum call out handyman fee 😮

LittleG69 · 05/10/2021 13:53

Had various quotes for a handyman recently (E Mids) ranging from £190 day rate down to £12 an hour. Ended up paying a set price for the work instead as preferred that person

Decorator is £110 a day which is really cheap. She is so busy as a result - just booked her to come back in April!
