@Chumleymouse yup, they're the ones they removed 😂 Now used to protect the pile of tiles in the middle of the room.

PoshWatchShitShoes · 11/10/2021 20:38

@Indecisivelurcher oh bugger, can you ask your carpenter to adjust the legs. Clutching a straws, but hopefully possible

Ha ha ha
I like your thinking

I've left a rambling voicemail for the main builder suggesting he comes to look.

Callmejudith · 11/10/2021 20:59

Tiler turned up and did a lovely job. He couldn’t do the wc bit because dickhead foreman forgot to board the floor argh but he can come back later this week. I’m so happy with the size of the room

We’re hiring a big old heater to attempt to dry out the plaster

OP posts:
PoshWatchShitShoes · 11/10/2021 21:58

Perfect @Callmejudith 👏

Tiles make it look nearly nearly finished. What room is this?

Callmejudith · 12/10/2021 06:31

That’s the utility which leads to the loo.

Boiler still not working arggghhh

Just had a quote for £1k to paint the kitchen - I think I may be able to do it myself in that case!

OP posts:
PoshWatchShitShoes · 12/10/2021 11:44

@Callmejudith decorating is so expensive!! I'm rubbish at it though, so it's a job I outsource 🙈

Indecisivelurcher · 12/10/2021 11:46

Ceiling is being plastered here. They want to do it in stages. Already planning when I'll paint!
Not a word about sloping floors yet...

sluj · 12/10/2021 13:29

I am painting our new kitchen extension by myself. There's nothing in it so I don't have to move stuff and the plasterers have made lovely joints so there is very little tedious preparation- apart from the messy mist coat.

Callmejudith · 12/10/2021 15:13

We finally finally finally have screed. I told the installer it’s my birthday tomorrow and the best pressie I could wish for is a nice floor

OP posts:
LivingInABuildingSite · 12/10/2021 16:09

Yey for screed! What a fab present lol.

Electricians x 2 & roofers x 2 here today.

The side roof should be finished tomorrow.

Then they have 2 weeks to fill with jobs before the main lantern and bifolds should be going in.

I hope they will keep working doing something!

PoshWatchShitShoes · 12/10/2021 17:49

Yay for screed @Callmejudith!! Super exciting. You'll have actual flooring soon 👏

I've been into office today, so not been to site. I'm slightly excited and slightly nervous something has happened without any consultation 😂

Good news from structural engineer means a wall I took down will be totally gone and no bits of wall sticking out. Not sure it that makes sense, but I'm super happy!!

Indecisivelurcher · 12/10/2021 19:36

So hard not to stress about things isn't it...
Lots of lovely plastering done here today. But still just thinking about the sloping floor. Husband spoke to the builder while I was out and said was reassuring, but then transpires he didn't mention the actual word slope, so I reckon the builder was probably thinking about lumps and bumps that need sorting rather than an actual slope. Short of taking the new door out and rebuilding the whole end of the room, we will have to make the best of it really. Hopefully some self leveller can reduce the slope but if its too thick it'll start to bury the door frame. In hindsight I'm convinced the door gap went in too low. Even the thickness of floor will start to cover the frame.

Hothammock · 12/10/2021 20:22

@sluj if you get a purpose made primer paint you don't have to do the awful mist coat method. B and q do massive tubs of it.

Hothammock · 12/10/2021 20:23

I had to go into the office today and 2 builders have managed to lay 10 tiles. Lack of supervision I think.

Callmejudith · 12/10/2021 20:28

@Hothammock argh! What is wrong with these people?

Can’t remember if I already said but we moved our boiler and it’s not working. They did something to isolate it so we will have hot water but he says there’s a leak somewhere which we need to find. Soooo annoying.

MissFritton65 · 12/10/2021 20:30

Returned from holiday to no heating or hot water, several floors have been taken up including the bathroom and all rooms have had everything put into the centre or moved to other rooms! The positive being we have a new boiler, all new pipework and all the radiators replaced just need the electrician to come tomorrow to do his bit so we can have them working!

Just popped to site to see what they've been up to today.... entire kitchen ceiling is missing 🙈 This is the view from the kitchen up into the DCs' bathroom

LivingInABuildingSite · 12/10/2021 21:43

😱 at some of those photos!

Re the sloping floor, if the flooring is going to go over the doorframes, you’re going to have to bite the bullet and take the doors out anyway. Then sort the floor before they go back in.

Having a discussion about terminology - what do you understand is meant by ‘first fix’? Have two electrical engineer friends disagreeing lol!

Indecisivelurcher · 12/10/2021 22:04

Ye... But the problem is the frame is too low, which means the rsj needs to go up a bit... If the door / frame was higher, they could self level away to their hearts content. But it isn't so they can't, so now I don't know how to get rid of the slope.

PoshWatchShitShoes · 13/10/2021 05:47

Morning all - I'm wide awake fretting about building stuff. Not even sure what, but feel like having a good cry. So unsettling have it all such a mess still.

On plus side, I'm going to finish off choosing paint colours and fabrics by end of next week. I've also confirmed our Airbnb stay till end November.

Rubbish news, we need to spend additional £4.2k on electrics!!! PLUS VAT. Basically some switches and sockets I forgot on plans and upgrading the bloody RCD board (whatever the fuck that is). We've already paid £18k on electrics PLUS VAT, so all legit. I asked if they'd take cash on the extra bit and the guy said no 😭 Sadly it's too late to find a smaller independent who isn't VAT-registered. So that's another £840 waste of money 🙈🤦🏼‍♀️🙈

I really need to make sure any additional stuff at this stage doesn't incur VAT!!

MissFritton65 · 13/10/2021 06:24

Morning @PoshWatchShitShoes I feel your pain and will be crying along with you. We have no heating, the only toilet is in a room with half a floor and I'm trying to run a business from here too! To come back from holiday to find most of your carpets pulled up and your belongings piled up in the middle of the room was a shock; we hadn't been told/realised the impact of the work happening while away as we would have moved things! Then I think we are paying over £200k for the "privilege" of living like this!
But ......."it will be worth it in the end"Grin

Indecisivelurcher · 13/10/2021 08:13

Ahh @PoshWatchShitShoes and @MissFritton65, sounds really stressful. Can you keep it in a box in your mind? The work you've got going on is obviously a lot more than here. We've done ours bit by bit which has at least spread the disruption over the years!
