Orange/brown water in toilet

Astitichintimesaveswine · 03/10/2021 11:02

After a blockage Blush the water in the toilet bowl keeps turning orange/brown a while after flushing. I've tried bleach, hot water and washing up liquid, and it's still returns.
Anyone know what it might be or do I need to get a plumber out?
TIA.

Do you have a plunger? There must be something still stuck in the pipe so it’s staining the water as it sits in the bowl.

If you squirt a load of fairy liquid down into the toilet and leave it as long as possible then pour a kettle full of hot -but not boiling-water down then flush it really quickly that can clear it.

It's a stuck turd. As well as the above, you could try pouring down a few large buckets of water from a height to simulate a powerful flush.

Thanks both. Will try those things.

None of those worked Sad. I'll buy some toilet unblocker and see if that works.

You could put a binliner over your hand/arm, and "fist" the blockage round the bend? Pretty disgusting but preferable to waiting all day for a plumber to rip you off.

So did you do it?
I hope you double bagged!

RoSEbuds6 · 04/10/2021 22:06

Or instead of ‘fisting’ the toilet 😂 you can put a round headed mop in a bin bag and use it like a plunger - works an absolute treat

I did it! I wasn't aware of anything 'unblocking' fortunately, but whatever I did worked. Not an experience I want to repeat or admit to! Blush

What technique did you use in the end ✊🏻 Or mop?

Astitichintimesaveswine · 05/10/2021 18:35

We will never speak of it again @Astitichintimesaveswine
You should get a mop though for next time

CottonSock · 05/10/2021 18:51

Congratulations on your toilet fisting success Grin

(cheap metal hangers that can be unwound & bent to -um- desired shape can also be used)
