Bathroom lock for sliding door (not pocket door)

We are having a sliding door put on our upstairs bathroom (as previously the door opened outwards and I lived in fear of knocking someone down the stairs).

Because it’s a bathroom it needs a lock. But all the locks I’ve seen are for pocket doors and the ‘hook’ of the lock needs to go ‘in’ to something and i’ not sure what that ‘something’ is on a sliding door which isn’t a pocket door? Do we need to add a bit of wood as a jamb and won’t that look terrible?

Hope this makes some kind of sense! Any ideas please?

I can't add a link for some reason but Google 90 Degree Door Hasp Latch 4 screws

Maybe something like that?

for a bathroom, I think you probably want a "privacy set" rather than a lock. They seem to have a flush "knob" that will not bang on the frame. If you have an actual key-operated lock it may be difficult to get access in an emergency.

there are a few examples here

there is more variety here

ah, here's one

Places that sell a wide range of locks can order Imperial.

It has the little square follower that you can you with a thumbturn.

turns for bathrooms are usually packed with an emergency open fitting for the outside of the door that can be opened with a coin or screwdriver.

the frame fitting for this looks like the lock keep or staple of any mortice lock (but is made differently)

Could you just use a hook and eye? So attach the hook to the door and the eye to the frame/wall?

I think the OP is looking for an option that's usable on a door which doesn't shut against a frame/jamb at all. Like the one shown here: www.directdoors.com/products/top-mounted-sliding-track

You can still fit a hook and eye at an angle on such a door.

Look for “barn door lock”. Best option seems to be something like this

PigletJohn · 02/10/2021 23:39

What would you screw it to?

CovidCorvid · 02/10/2021 23:41

The wall?
