Our building work started nearly 4 weeks ago. I informed our contents insurer in advance and all fine. No change to premium.
That insurer previously provided both buildings and contents insurance. Now we have separate cover since 2019.
I'm such an idiot and didn't tell the buildings insurer about the building work!!
We doing some structural work inside with buildings control and structural engineer involved.
Our current buildings cover is unlimited, so there isn't an increased property price for them to cover and the main changes are new windows, heating upgrade, new kitchen and bathroom, so we're not adding more square footage. The structural change is around knocking down a wall and also changing the staircase layout.
Shit!! Do I call the building insurer and tell them now and hope it's not an issue? Or do I not tell them and hope nothing goes work? ðŸ˜
I'd be tempted to tell them new kitchen and new bathrooms are being installed in a couple of weeks and that I've ordered a new staircase. All technically correct, but some of the structural stuff is underway and there are official records with the council for building control, so I can't sidestep questions on start date.
Any advice or help please? Feeling a bit sick at my own stupidity!!
