Completion dates frustration

A very quick rant but I just can't hold it in.

For the past few weeks we have been planning for a completion date week beginning 11 Oct. we have a tiny chain of three and all seemed do-able.

Now the top of the chain has decided that they are not only having their house, which they are buying from a family member, decorated and recarpeted which will take 2 weeks, but they would like the help of a specific family member to move. Who is not available until the 22 Oct. which is the beginning of the only 5 days I am unavailable.

Sigh

Sounds ridiculous. Can you just say no?

Ma - it was the straw that broke the camel's back I'm afraid. I've been in touch with the solicitor and the agent to say that I'm not available from 21 Oct for a week.

I'm fed up with dancing to everyone else's tune and I'd rather cut my nose off to spite my face and just wait to complete until it works for me.

Well, we're still messing about with it. Everyone is furious and the Estate Agent is no longer returning my calls.

I spoke to my solicitor's PA today and she said that our sellers claim they were told the 14 Oct and are being very firm (which suits me). My buyers would exchange and complete tomorrow too.

I feel a tiny bit unreasonable that I've refused a whole week but I have said for the whole process that I won't do half term. I still have my fingers crossed that the top of the chain will see sense and go for before the 21 Oct rather than after 2 Nov when my kids have gone back to school.

If the top won't budge then we're all scunnered I assume?!
