Tiling quote, should I accept without other quotes

I’ve received a quote of £400 to tile my kitchen. It’s actually quite small 4.5m square.

A tiler guy online said it should be £50 per square meter so it should be about £225. So in theory I’m paying a lot more than I should.

However the guy seems to be a good tiler according to his Instagram. I also received his card from Topps Tiles.

As we know it’s a busy time for trades people.

Shall I just accept?

Getting trades that are available is crazy currently unless different to where you are. It isn't much more if you are happy with their work, although not sure how you can judge from Insta. Tops tiles will not know the quality of work

Get more quotes? You can post on www.checkatrade.com/ and get more quotes by the end of today. If you can't be bothered, then fair enough, but don't resent paying more than the going rate then.

Around here I'd be questioning why they can even do the job, waits are madness. Have you seen reviews?

I can judge from insta from the tiles being in a straight line and being well placed. He’s upload a few different styles of tiles as well.

Yes I would. We waited months for a good tiler to be available to complete our bathroom project this summer. If he's good, get him booked in, £400 isn't so bad.

I'm amazed you can get someone at short notice actually, make sure you see examples of his work. Bad tiling is awful and there usually no way to fix it other than rip it out and start again.

He’s available December lol.

Received his card from Topps Tiles means nothing. At least get one more quote

I always wonder if their photos are genuine. Obviously if he's seen in the picture too, actually working then ok . But anyone can download nice tile images from Facebook or Google etc . Tread carefully.

This guy is as he’s linked customers Instagram whereby they’ve made posts about his work (does that make sense?).

So I’m confident he’s genuine in his work.

I asked a tiler and that’s what they suggested - get a card. I guess it at least shows they are working in the area.

@drpet49 I’ve also done the NextDoor app thing which has been a disaster!

They could be pricing by the day. Is it mosaic? Tricky pattern? They are pricing high as they are busy so can?
I'm using a tiler, not much notice, and he's excellent. I think checkatrade is not reliable.
One of my best tilers (who could also do flooring, fit a kitchen, do plumbing) was from Topps Tiles board!
