Has anyone who has done this give me some advice?

It looks like I have a buyer for my flat.

But there is absolutely nothing on the market just now that I would consider buying.

I know the areas I'm interested in/can afford, etc.

Has anyone had any success in popping letters through doors in their preferred area?

If so, what kind of thing did you write?

We tried it. No success, but I know others who have. If you use the search function to look for leafleting you will find plenty of advice about what to include - at least, that’s what I did.

Good luck!

We had success with this but the house wasn’t for us after viewing sadly so I then felt really bad that we had got the sellers hopes up

We bought our house this way. It took quite a long while as there was no agent pushing it along so we went into a rental for a couple of months.
It is totally worth it now though as we got a house in a road we love, there was no stress of bidding against others and our vendors knew we were serious.

Tried but not successful.

Thanks for the replies.

I think I'll give it another few weeks and then
see how I feel. I appreciate it could be awkward if I end up not keen on something, after enquiring. I wouldn't like to get someone's hopes up.

But it's great to see that it can work out!

Tried this, had 3 responses out of loads of letters sent. Considering one of them seriously at the moment.

We did and found a property. Viewed it, loved it and they told us what they wanted for it. It was overpriced but we could afford it so went ahead. I was so happy and pleased that it worked after spending hours handwriting cards.

About 3 weeks down the line, unbelievably someone else leafletted it and offered a hell of a lot more money than us and we couldn't beat it. So we lost it. I couldn't believe that we got gazuumped on an off market house!
