Smart heating Controls

Can anyone recommend a smart heating control system that can be operated remotely but which is wired into the house, rather than plugged in.

We currently have a thermostat in the hall and a controller in the utility room.

Not sure if it is wired in or not but we have the Evohome system from Honeywell. You have a smart valve on each radiator and you can control them from your phone if you want to. Works really well for us.

No real reason why I want wired in other than it saves plugging the thing in.

The boiler is 10 years old. And controls have moved on a lot in 10 years

Eco home user here. Although it is possible to run it without TRVs, it really flies when you add them to the system!

I was looking at the Evo one last night. Expensive to install but really attracted to the zones.

Do you put the controls on bathroom radiators too?

I have an EvoHome system - Rolls Royce of systems that allows you to control the temp. in each room and set different temps for each at different times of the day.

Downside? Expensive.

Lockdownbear · 24/09/2021 12:01

How long do you think it takes to cover the cost of installing Evo?

Highly recommend nest, I control it all from my phone and is wired in, it automatically switches to away when there is no one in the house and back on when you come home etc

ineedaholidayandwine · 24/09/2021 13:01

I had Nest before moving house and i loved it!! So easy to use both on the thermostat and the app.
I'm hoping i can get a smart thermostat at my new house but need one that will control under floor heating as well as radiators

Lockdownbear · 24/09/2021 13:16

That depends on how much you feel you're currently heating the house unnecessarily

That's the bit that's hard to quantify but they're are definitely rooms getting heated at times they don't need it.

We have a Nest, the control box has to be wired in but the thermostat can be wired or plugged in. Its great being able to set it from your phone and as a programmable themostat generally but we found the actual smart features to be a nightmare and switched them all off again. We have non-smart TRVs except for the towel rail in the bathroom, the system works pretty well like that.
