Talk to me about ovens... what does yours do that you couldn't live without??

Never replaced an oven before so don't know what I don't know! Found a good Miele one that's a which Best Buy and would match the other units without being insanely expensive.

But I don't really know what I should be looking for?!

Should I be ruling it out as it's manual clean only? Are self cleaning ovens really worth it?

I would never go back to an oven I have to clean manually.

Mine has a "prove" setting for proofing bread dough which I use a lot. I would want to keep that function if buying a new one.

We also have a keep warm setting for, as an example, keeping a rotisserie chicken we got at Costco yesterday warm until dinner time.

Another one voting for pyrolytic cleaning oven. Mine is only Electrolux but had it nearly six years with no problems. So simple and would never buy an oven without it. Has to be pyrolytic though. So called ‘self cleaning’ ovens are not the same having had one previously. Mine is just plugged into a normal socket in adjoining tall unit.

100% of the time I use the fan, 95% of the time the temp is set to 180.
In my last house there was a steam oven. I used it to store baking trays. The previous owners never used it either.
So cook. Self clean would be great (which I don't get why they aren't all self clean, as my mother's in the US was way back in the 80s).

My mum has a pyrolytic oven, it's a few years old now and looks like new. I pay £60 twice a year to get mine professionally cleaned so my next kitchen will absolutely have one of those no matter how much it costs.

We have a neff, it has 10 settings. We use 2 - quick heat up and fan oven.

Being a bread maker I would love a steam oven. Crunchy bread at your fingertips.

With pyrolytic you will still need to clean the racks separately. I am vegetarian so I am not convinced my oven gets manky enough or greasy enough to have that much benefit given I put a tray underneath the rack if I think there will be any spillage. (and I say that as someone who feels oven cleaning is the worst chore known to man)
If you are cooking meat that is different

TiddleTaddleTat · 23/09/2021 07:28

Where do people with pyrolytic ovens clean the racks?

Autumngoldleaf · 23/09/2021 07:37

Op you need to see them in rl and also it depends where your oven is.

Eg ours will be under counter so essential for me.

They basically support the shelf coming right out so your not peering in or gently pulling a rail out... Just slide the whole thing safely out.

Billandben444 · 23/09/2021 07:38

Tiddle, I put an old towel in the bath (to protect it) and rub them down with a brillo then remove towel and shower off - towel goes in the wash. Tbh, they're never that dirty as the cooker flashes PYR when it thinks you're due a clean and obviously has higher standards than I do! Or I buy one of those clean-in-a-bag things - is it Mr Muscle?

TiddleTaddleTat · 23/09/2021 07:47

@Billandben444 ah thanks. To be honest this is the bit I hate of cleaning the oven! There isn't much stuck to the insides anyway as any spills are wiped up. So not sure if pyrolytic is for me.
Definitely going for a hide and slide though.
Has anyone seen the different neff models and can advise whether it's worth having a sliding handle on them?
Ive looked at them in the kitchen showroom but wondering about using day to day

@TiddleTaddleTat

Where do people with pyrolytic ovens clean the racks?

In the giant bags included in the packs of Oven pride. It's so easy. Gloves included too!
