HKOC - oiling or painting the inside?

Just wondering what other people have done/what opinions are on painting or just oiling the inside of units?

Think I might have to paint my own as build costs mount up and painting all of it will take longer but will probably be easier as I won't have to spend ages taping the edges and trying to stop seeping. But would wooden, oiled insides look nicer?

I guess I'll also need to prime and undercoat the outside insides (as in outside sides of units that you wouldn't see as they'll be fitted) just to protect them from kitchen steam and water etc. Is that right?

Please throw any tips my way! Thanks

Hi. I have a HMKOC kitchen.

We have two coats of OSMO danish white oil on the inside of the cupboards and undercoat plus two coats of eggshell on the doors.

My builder took the doors/drawer fronts off to paint them (which didn’t seem too difficult) and he painted those with a foam roller. I think that would actually be easier than taping them. The oil he did with a brush when the doors were off. It’s holding up well so far.

I think it’s possible that a painted finish inside the cupboards would scratch/dent easily??

I can send a picture of what it looks like if that would help?

I've varnished the inside of mine, two coats. Three coats of little greene intelligent satinwood on the exterior. I've unscrewed my doors to paint them. I'm also painting mine myself to save costs but I've kind of half finished it, need to get back on the job ! Are you using the HKOC knobs or have you ordered them elsewhere ?

Fab. Thanks both. So no to painting on the inside really. I did worry about scratching and denting. I will oil.

Did you paint the outside inside of your units? Hope that makes sense.

Knobs I've got elsewhere, thankfully as don't want to paint wooden ones!

Sure here we go…

(We added some less at the back of the wall cupboards in case you’re wondering what the strip is)

LED strips at the back, stupid autocorrect!

@SollaSollew brilliant, thanks so much, that looks great. Wish we'd gone for the reeded glass now!

I'm a bit more excited about taking the painting on myself now
