How would you decorate this?

What would you do with this fence to soften it?

I'm think of maybe nailing some little birdhouses. Maybe some pots with bamboo or a climber.

North facing garden

How would you decorate this?

Is that a rather narrow bed at the back? I’d remove a couple of extra slabs and plant climbers in the earth rather than in pots. Star jasmine has been working well for us to cover a big trellis.

Assuming that’s a bed at the front it will also look softer when that’s full of plants that blur the edges etc.

Paint it a soft black and grow some climbers up it

Iwantcauliflowercheese · 21/09/2021 08:57

I'd paint it a soft green and plant a grape vine.

Plant a Trachelospermum jasminoides. In a decent hole in the ground with a bit of manure, not in that wee strip at the back. And train wires along the fence. Or a hydrangea petiolaris, evergreen self clinging.

And or an evergreen clematis. Not a Montana. Or google climbing roses for north facing walls.

Is it your fence?

If so, then a climber like a scented jasmine maybe.

Definitely something like bamboo in pots to give height or one of those plants that looks like a palm tree but probably isn't (I am not a gardener 😂)

SoupDragon · 21/09/2021 09:07

I'd go with solar lanterns on brackets rather than birdhouses (assuming it's your fence)

GreatHitchenKitchen · 21/09/2021 11:10

I'd probably put a fatsia japonica in a very big pot as well for some height.

mumtoallbhoys · 21/09/2021 12:46

It is my fence.

I like the idea of something scented.

@GreatHitchenKitchen

All of your suggestions look beautiful. I am going to start researching them individually

Something along the top trailing down. Even if it had to be fake, due to reduced sunshine. And some fairy lights.

Where there's a column on the right, I'd stand a tall potted tree in front.
