For months now there has been a pungent smell coming from under the kitchen sink. It permeates the rest of the downstairs due to house layout. I have tried kitchen drain unblocker, bicarbonate soda etc. Nothing seems to shift the smell. It's driving me mad!
My husband has even taken apart the pipes under the sink and nothing to indicate this awful smell.
We are now thinking that this could be contributed by external drains outside. The kitchen sink drains right outside to the external gulley.
Today we have had a drain specialist company come out and they have confirmed the outside drains are not blocked. We were told that the pipe leading out from the sink waste is not positioned correctly. Currently it was positioned as straight down into the gulley. We have been told this should have been done at an angle.

Could the layout of the pipes really be creating strong smells to be coming through into the house?
