Royal Mail Redirection Question

MonsterKidz · 20/09/2021 13:08

Thought I might get a quick response from this group.

I moved 3 months ago and set up a royal mail redirection. It is now coming to an end and I’d like to renew it for another 3 months as I still feel I haven’t got all addresses changed.

Does any one know if you renew it does a letter go to the old address to inform them? We got an initial letter of confirmation when we first set it up but we lived there then so it was fine.

Thanks for your help.

No, nothing goes to the old address. I have extended my redirection twice and it was really quick and easy

MonsterKidz · 20/09/2021 13:12

Fab, thank you. I just have a very specific reason why I don’t wish a letter to go there so that puts my kind at rest.

I extended my redirection several times too. I think when you first set up the redirection, a letter goes to your old address but not when you extend it.

I can imagine a few scenarios where this would be an issue, but you don’t have anything to worry about.

I am actually coming up to the end of four years and we still haven’t changed everything over! I am now keeping a list of anything that comes with the redirection sticker on, so we can let those last places know - as I won’t be able to extend again after the end of this year

Yes I don't want my buyers having my new address - nothing to do with them, just a slight stalker issue and don't want them innocently telling this person where I'm at now!
But no, everything goes to your new address.

Your old address will get a letter, as I've just had this happen, I received a letter from Royal Mail saying post had been redirected from my address who the name of .... but that's it, not to where it's been redirected too. If that's any help

TakeYourFinalPosition · 20/09/2021 17:57

One was sent when I extended my redirection, but that was four years ago... and it didn't say where the redirect was going; just that post for XXX was now being redirected.

I asked Royal Mail at the time if they could not send one, they escalated it for me, and the police provided evidence on my behalf; but they said they had to send the letter incase someone was redirecting someone else's name fraudulently. I don't know if that's still the case, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

Well I'm not impressed so far with mail redirect, started it beginning of January and they sent a bank statement to my old address FGS! Good job I have not vacated the property yet, all the crappy mail arriving at the new address OK 😕

Hi I know this is a bit late on from when the post was created. I have the same worry as you had. I have just set up mail redirection and I’m worried what information is on the letter of confirmation. It doesn’t show your billing details does it? I.e your billing address that I used to pay for redirection.

thanks

CheltenhamLady · 06/12/2022 15:49

Our redirection failed three times and they extended the time free the first time, then on the third occasion they refunded us fully.
They do send a letter to your old address, but it doesn't give the new address.

Pemba · 07/12/2022 06:47

I can confirm that the letter to the old address will not disclose the new address or billing details. It will show your name(s) though.

RidingMyBike · 07/12/2022 11:50

They send a letter to your old address but it leaves the new address blank so the new occupant wouldn't know it.

TBH I'd renew it for as long as possible. We've gone past a year since we moved and still get an occasional something that has escaped address change. I'd go for at least a year and including at least one Christmas as there are many things that only get sent once a year (Christmas cards, insurance stuff, subscriptions for instance).

The vendor at our new home only did mail redirection for a month and is now missing out on so much post that we're having to return to sender! He hadn't changed stuff like his National Trust subscription.

Imanexecutor · 07/12/2022 12:41

Why don’t you forward it @RidingMyBike ?

RidingMyBike · 07/12/2022 13:58

Don't have a forwarding address for him.

He had a couple of parcels turn up which we told the estate agent about. He also caused us no end of problems - delays to exchange which have cost us a lot of money, failed to vacate property on time on completion day, left loads of possessions behind which needed house clearance to deal with so I'm not prepared to forward his post if he can't be bothered to extend his redirection.

Imanexecutor · 07/12/2022 16:19

Fair enough @RidingMyBike

AnastassiafromScotland · 05/10/2023 23:39

Hello, Do you mind if I ask the question, it is related to the initial question. How long does it take for confirmation letter to arrive ? I also dont wan the people living in the house knowing my new address. thank you

RidingMyBike · 06/10/2023 07:06

It was within a week for us.

The new address isn't visible on the letter that goes to the old address, if that makes sense.
