Ideas for what appliance/other thing to go here?

Hi all!
I'm 6 months pregnant and wide awake si I thought I'd ask you lovely folks some kitchen advice - we recently moved into a new flat and it has a distinct 'bachelor' feel to some of it! For example in the kitchen there is a small island with bank seating with a drinks fridge in one side of it (pictured). We already have a normal fridge under the counter and when we tried out this extra one it was pretty noisy. Obviously I'm not getting much use out of a drinks cooler at present (although I did joke we could use it for storing breast milk!). If we were to get rid of it and have a gap, what else could go here? We have a dishwasher already and enough kitchen cabinet space although the flat lacks storage in general. Any creative and interesting ideas welcome!!

How about a bookcase, for cookbooks and displaying nice crockery?

wineymummy · 13/09/2021 08:33

I agree about a bookcase which would add some colour to an otherwise very grey space.

@BeautifulandWilfulandDead ooh there's an idea. Would also give me an excuse to buy pretty new cook books!!

@wineymummy I know, it's horrendously grey, the whole flat is actually! It might be a nice way to add colour and I hadn't thought of that, thanks!

When the baby is crawling, you could swap the cook books for picture books or toys they can get out themself.

I can see your bin in the photo. Is the space suitable for a hideaway-bin?

Pan drawers.

Rainbowshit · 13/09/2021 11:04

I'd also put the bin in there.

Another vote for pan drawers - they can store anything - you will accumulate a whole multitude of "stuff" as your family increases - you may think you've got enough room right now but I imagine it will be a bit different in a year's time.

Is the thing to the right of the drinks cooler a normal built-in kitchen cupboard? It just looks odd, as if it's at a slight angle, plus it has a strange gap to the wall on the right and I can't see the plinth I'd expect to be underneath it.

If that cupboard comes out then you have a much more flexible space to play with.
