Offering to buy a house up for rent

Is it even possible and, if so, how would you go about it?
There's is nothing suitable for sale in my area at the moment - the market is totally dead so I was browsing Rightmove at rental properties to potentially move into to make us more attractive buyers when the time comes and there is a house for rent that would be perfect!
I've emailed the letting agent to ask if they know whether the landlord might consider selling and I was contemplating putting a note through the door but I don't know if it's the owners living there now or renters.
What would you do? Has anyone ever been in this position? Thanks.

You’ve asked, and they might be up for it, and they might not. Don’t put a note through the door - emailing the letting agent was better approach.

Oh I’m interested in the answer too! I had to come off buyers/sellers thread and did the same as you. There was a lovely house for rental, but bare bones so would have been affordable for us.

No harm. I don't think it is uncommon for people to put properties up for let when they can't sell them or don't think it will be worth their while selling them.
