Anyone not being picky - and STILL can't find anything?

We've been on the hunt for 18 months. In that time, we've expanded our search area and budget. We've offered on four houses - three times we were outbid by developers and one time they decided not to sell. But nothing has come on for us to view in the last couple of months.

I guess I'm looking for a support group on here to commiserate with me 😂

Everyone we talk to says:

 • The market is crazy right now
 • It will settle down
 • More will become available eventually
 • Just be patient

But I worry about getting priced out of the market if we wait too long. How long do we wait for the "right" house?

On the chain thing - circumstances can change and it may depend how long something has been on the market.

Several years ago my Mum put her house on the market chain-free as she'd intended to move into the house I was renting out as I'd relocated. It took absolutely ages to sell and by the time it did I'd had to get a tenant for my house as I couldn't afford to leave it empty. The EA should really have removed 'chain-free' from the property description and her eventual buyer ended up complaining about this.

wannabeamummysobad · 11/11/2021 11:37

So we've applied for our mortgage on the new property. A desktop valuation has taken place and the property has been valued at £3k below offer. Reached out to the EA and asked that the seller accept the mortgage val. keeping everything crossed.

EA confirmed that no viewings have taken place since our offer despite the property being on the market still. Hopefully this works in our favour (ie seller not wanting to lose their onward purchase for £3k). Will keep you updated.

How are things moving for everyone else?

BerryTiredMama · 11/11/2021 12:12

Applied for our mortgage today, facts and figures are eye-watering but hopefully the valuation will be booked in tomorrow. There are still viewings occurring on Saturday and now that we’ve managed to get the valuation on time the agent is now saying we also need the solicitor to apply for searches for it to be taken off the market.

Annoyed is an understatement but we’re going to take out insurance as the agent seems to be a right ass.

@wannabeamummysobad hope the vendor gives the 3k off, they should as others applying for the mortgage will probably face the same issue.

wannabeamummysobad · 11/11/2021 12:25

@BerryTiredMama definitely take the insurance- wanting a mortgage and a solicitor to take off the market is a step too far. I might actually look into getting it once we've instructed a solicitor.

Yes, you are right. Fingers crossed they agree
@FanGirlX it's just outside the west London boundary, near Heathrow. But not under the flight path! It's about 45 mins from Waterloo on the train.
Thank you. I've deliberately put my search on hold until the new year. I couldn't cope with the mania round here.

Sold, in rented (hate it and want a place of my own again). But agents still don't phone me back. Until this week that is - I had wondered if the mania was dying down a bit because of this.

BennyBean · 11/11/2021 15:50

Our property went on the market this week we have our first viewing on it at the weekend, recently renovated, we are near shops, pubs, motorway links, retail parks and on a pretty street in a popular area so fingers crossed

Momniscient · 11/11/2021 16:01

Fingers crossed it goes well for you @BennyBean!

Exciting to see progress for some posters on here !

We have TWO houses to see on sat. One I think has a too small garden, the other has an east facing garden. I'm a gardener and worried that east facing will be a bit dark and boggy - anyone got experience in that?

areyouhavingagiraffe · 11/11/2021 17:41

Guys, latest bullshit from EA. Was calling about a viewing I have tomorrow, getting confirmation. Apparently it is cancelled as the vendors have covid, and EA has been trying to call me ALL day to tell me, funny that I have no missed calls, or e-mails from them. It makes me so irate guys, I need a thicker skin

BennyBean · 11/11/2021 17:57

that is so annoying if they had called you you would have missed calls

beguilingeyes · 11/11/2021 18:08

We are in the middle. Just found asbestos in some artex..our house is old...so trying to get some estimates to remove/cover it. Stress.

areyouhavingagiraffe · 11/11/2021 18:12

@BennyBean just chased another EA about a viewing tomorrow evening. Apparently she left me a voicemail. Only voicemail I had was from my laser clinic about my laser hair fucking removal. Oh and this EA been calling me all day as well......I'm a popular girl, bit funny that I am not getting the calls

areyouhavingagiraffe:
i am 100% sure they haven't been calling you that is soooo annoying
why do they do this when they know people are getting stressed out
it just adds to it
i'll be glad when we are all moved and happy again and i'm not moving ever again
hope you get sorted good luck

I never understood why EA's have such a bad reputation until I entered this awful house buying process. I have never dealt with such a group of dishonest, lying...I'm not sure what to call them? I do not believe a single word that comes out of their mouths. Ever. I'm not bitter at all Grin

Paddingtonthebear · 11/11/2021 18:50

I viewed two houses today! First viewing(s) for 2 months. Unfortunately neither suitable.

i agree with you it doesn't make the process easier they need to be more on the ball and honest with people, keep people updated if not it causes more stress
BennyBean · 11/11/2021 21:14

Ahhh so annoyed we had someone coming to view our property saturday and they have cancelled i wish they would not book viewings if they are not sure it's right for them when they look online

Momniscient · 11/11/2021 21:24

@ablutiions another gardener here Grin East facing isn't necessarily dark and boggy. Having lived with an east facing garden it's more about trees nearby, airflow and that. Plenty of plants will thrive with east facing. Depending on the shape of it, and distance from fences you might be surprised by a bit that's still gets the sun in the afternoon. Diagram on a special garden thread?

Momniscient · 11/11/2021 21:31

@areyouhavingagiraffe suspicious of your phone if I'm honest. Can you have someone else call you? See if it genuinely is a phone problem?

Momniscient · 11/11/2021 21:36

@Paddingtonthebear hurrah for some fresh viewings! Shame they were no good though. Let's hope the good houses keep coming up Grin

areyouhavingagiraffe · 11/11/2021 21:45

@Momniscient, yup. I called my mobile from my work land line, my parents land line and my sister's mobile. My laser hair removal clinic managed to call me today about my hair removal appointment. Maybe my mobile is an EA repellent

retiremeoff · 12/11/2021 07:14

What such a fast moving market. How can you make such a snap decision after a viewing to offer? I like to mull over things and take my time with such a large purchase that makes a significant impact on the whole family and I just can't imagine being that decisive.

areyouhavingagiraffe · 12/11/2021 07:53

@retiremeoff, I know what you mean. I think that's why stuff is appearing back on market. And people like me withdraw from purchases. However I don't know what the alternative is

FanGirlX · 12/11/2021 11:46

They are reacting to the market. So many buyers they couldn't care less about one.

I hope the market turns, just so they have to learn some manners Grin
