Mandatory Moving Gas Meter Outside?

Hi All, Cadent are replacing the gas pipes on my road and knocked on my door yesterday to advise they'll need to move my very old imperial gas meter from under the stairs to outside. He said I didn't have a choice in moving it.

Can anyone advise of the work involved and what these guys are like? Do they need to dig up my Victorian tiled path to move the meter or is there any other disruptive work involved? Are they going to leave holes that I then need a builder to come and repair? Also is it really mandatory to move the meter from under the stairs to an ugly box outside??

Have a Google about Cadent making people move gas meters, not pretty reading in some places. You can refuse entry I think, and refuse to have your path dug up.

OP, I had to have this done. I didn't have a lovely tiled pathway to worry about (jealous!), but they made good the holes they dug etc. I didn't have to get someone in to do it.
