Hi, me and my ex have been for 5 months but I currently live in a council house under his name while he lives with a friend. He put us in 2k worth of debt and we have a 1 year old and I’m 27 weeks pregnant and the social worker has told me I have to find a property. The council have explained it’s going to take ages till I get a property and I discussed this with my ex and have wondered would it be possible for him to carry on paying the arrears he owes while I start fresh in the house and start payments?

No, either he lives there and pays or the council reallocate. He can’t sublet a council house.

Unlikely but you can ask. I would imagine the main concern from the council would be if you have split permanently or are you likely to move him back in and go into arrears again.

The flip side is that it may benefit the council to have you stay there rather than evicting you and placing you in emergency accomodation elsewhere.
