North east facing garden

Hi everyone,

We are looking at a new build property. Plot 36. It has a North East facing garden. In order for us to get as much sun as possible, would it be wise to add a tiered patio at the back of the garden?

We live in a property with a south facing garden and it is a sun trap but we have 2 kids and sometimes it's a bit too hot for them to go out in.

Thank you!!

Forgive the silly question if you have, but have you double-checked the above site plan is depicted as North facing?

I ask as a local new build development's "final plan" (the version submitted to council, etc) was about 90° different to the brochure plan image, so perhaps this garden isn't as North-East facing as you think?

The house we are buying has a long North-East facing garden and the back of the garden always is in the sun. The original owners built a patio towards the back to maximise BBQs etc. The back of the garden, if far away from the house, effectively becomes South-West facing so should be in constant sun.

I don't think you need tiers, but your garage may cast shadows towards the end of the afternoon. I suppose it can't be moved forward?
My (much smaller) garden faces North and I have a three storey apartment block behind, but the garden get plenty of sun as there's not much blocking it east and west but the garden fence, but that still doesn't cast more than a few feet shadow early morning and late afternoon.

I'd get rid of the garage all together and just keep your car on the drive. if you need the type of storage you get in a garage, you could put a shed / garden office on the other side of the garden.

I’ve got a NE facing garden.

I have a patio outside my french doors that gets the sun until about 12-1 ish depending on time of the year and the. At the bottom of the garden I have another patio which I’ve tiered so I get the sun from 2 until say 6-8 depending on season
