Looking for inspiration as am devoid of it after lots of googling!

Our lounge has sage green walls but I want to wallpaper the chimney breast for a bit of interest. Looking at using the attached William Morris design.

But can't decide what curtains go equally well with the wallpaper and wall colour. Could go with a darkish green but the problem is that the curtains cover a massive bay window so will form a huge block of colour and I worry that curtains in one bold colour will be too much/dominant. But I'm not sure if any form of patterned curtains will match the William Morris wallpaper?

Just trying to avoid going for the default option of plain cream curtains!

Wallpaper/curtains suggestions please!

have you thought about venetian blinds or shutters instead of curtains?

Beebumble2 · 03/09/2021 22:59

I think you should go for a plain light tone of green or cream, if you want curtains. We have white, wide slatted wooden blinds at our bay windows. We did have curtains, but the blinds on their own are a better look.

Thanks for the suggestions. Only thing is that we have gorgeous views over countryside from the bay window when our curtains are open which I wouldn't want to obstruct with blinds or shutters.

We got some Morris and co curtains from John Lewis that are really lovely. We've got the darker blue ones upstairs but perhaps this shade might be better for what you need?

I found this at John Lewis & Partners. What do you think? https://www.johnlewis.com/morris-co-strawberry-thief-pair-lined-pencil-pleat-curtains-duck-egg/p2513573?tmad=c&tmcampid=7&sshare=jlappioss_Y29tLmFwcGxlLlVJS2l0LmFjdGl2aXR5LkNvcHlUb1Bhc3RlYm9hcmQ=

I think they'll clash with the william morris wallpaper though. Maybe I do need to go for plain curtains but maybe something with a texture to give a bit of interest.

OP, two thoughts:

Have a shop around for fabric from the Morris Pure range and get them made up - lots of beautiful options in ecru colourways which would coordinate and are muted enough not to clash. And yes, PP is right, Willow Bough is a good shout with Larkspur.

Depending on window dimensions Bedeckerl have limited ready made options in neutral colourways. This one is Wandle.

@thisplaceisapigsty and @agedmother..thanks for the Willow Bough suggestion. Will explore that Morris Pure too. X

If you follow the 60:30:10 rule as long as your room has 60% of your dominant colour which sounds like sage green you can Def have a colour for the curtains. I would go for a textured curtain in one of the other colours in the wallpaper like blue or pink? Other options is white/cream with tassles or pom poms in an accent colour?

Thanks @HomelyK. My current curtains already have accents of pink that goes with she sage green walls nicely. (Although in the pic the wall looks a lot darker due to being in a shadow.) I do like these curtains. Maybe I need to revisit the whole William Morris wallpaper idea.

Another idea is to just paint the chimney breast in a darker shade of sage/olivey green. I think I just feel the room is a little all one colour.
