Hoping to move to Chelmsford and am viewing houses at the moment, I have seen a house of interest off of chignal road but have heard not such great things about Melbourne and the park is round the corner....could anyone advise please. At the moment I live in quiet a high crime rated area and would want to move to a safer area for my children b14 g10.....any help would be great....thanks in advance xx

Springfield is a good area and the house prices reasonable for Chelmsford. Schools are good too

Is that the area that chignal road is in? Not from the area at all so a little in the dark xx

Springfield is on the opposite side of Chelmsford to the Chignal road area. I used to live in Springfield and taught at schools both there and in Melbourne. Unfortunately the latter does have more trouble and in my experience I'd look at other parts of town. In the 20 years that we were in Chelmsford, we lived in Springfield, Chelmer Village and just off Waterhouse Lane and felt safe in each of those areas.

I think Chignal Road is what would be considered the "border" of the Melborne area. I have never lived in Melborne, but have not heard great things, both anecdotally from people who lived/worked near the area and via local facebook page.

Springfield (north chelmsford near beulieu) and Chelmer Village (north east) have a wide range of different types of housing and are much safer areas. I would also be very wary of certain areas of great baddow (area near Meadgate shops) as there are constant police notifications about crime (usually drugs) going on in the area.

You can look at streetcheck website to try and suss out the crime rate of any areas you are interested in.

I would advise against Melbourne too. It depends what you are looking for - do you need to be near the city centre/train station? I find Chelmsford really irritating for public transport and getting into the city centre/train station. Springfield and Chelmer Village are fine. Also the Moulsham area (south of Princes Road) is ok - but there aren't many houses for sale in this area at the moment. The Moulsham area north of Princes road is also nice but £££££

It depends which road really, Chignal Road is very long. The river roads area is ok, a bit run down but fine really. Melbourne Avenue and roads off it are best avoided but north of it is fine, and behind the park (Newlands Spring) is really nice and quiet with a good school. The park does attract youths but they don't tend to cause trouble, and it's lovely having such a big green space and the woods around it. Melbourne has a reputation from 15-20 years ago but I'm told it's improved (though the people on the parade of shops can be a bit alarming at times!).

Ideally I would prefer to be near good state secondary schools and a bus ride away from the centre, just so that my eldest has the freedom to go into town...I know there are a lot of cycle paths aren’t there?
The road I’m looking at is rosling close...road seems well looked after and houses too but haven’t had a chance to explore the area....so any advice would be really helpful and really appreciated 👍🏻
