Ending rental tenancy

Hi all

I'm a bit daft with stuff like this and was wondering if anyone can help interpret my rental contract please?

My agreement states…
“Where the tenancy becomes periodic at the end of a fixed term the tenant is required to pay at least 1 month notice in writing…ending on the last day of a periodic tenancy…”

I’m not sure what that means.
My agreement started on 21.11.20 so I am past the fixed period.

If I give notice 3rd September does that mean I pay up to 2nd October? If so I assume that means I need to pay a pro rate payment balance to cover the period 21st September to 2nd October? Is this correct?
Thanks ☺️

How long was your fixed term? Six months? And presumably you pay your rent on the 21st of each month? If so, your fixed term ended on 20th May 2021; and each rolling periodic term runs from the 21st of each month to the 20th of the next inclusive. Even if you give notice on 3rd September, you still need to pay rent until 20th October, with your final rent payment made on 21st September, unless you reach an agreement with your landlord to end the tenancy outwith the standard periodic term and pro rata the rent.

Ok. Thanks for that. I did wonder looks like I'll be paying double rent 😩

We have a 12 month AST which expired in June we’ve been on a rolling month since then

We’ve just given notice which should expire on 11th October (as our period was 12th-11th) but we’ve agreed with our LL to finish on 30th September and pay pro rata.
