I am thinking of doing this to help with bills.

Just interested if any other single females have rented a room in their own home and if so, how was it?

I had lodgers for years in both London and Dublin - women and men. Some worked out (one guy stayed for 3 years!), some didn't (thinking of the girl who left used sanitary pads in the open dustbin. Yuk.)

It's good to have clear but not onerous house rules about use of the communal spaces, overnight visitors, a bathroom rota, cleaning, acceptable noise, etc. Having their own shelf in the fridge and food cupboards is a good idea. Be friendly but direct and don't let problems fester.

well I still have 2 students who came for one year to study here...one is polish and one is latvian....15 years later they are still here and with jobs...i do have a 4 bed house with 2 lounges tho....only one bathroom...i would miss them if they moved out...they only pay a small amount...we go on holiday together sometimes or out for an evening but they do their own thing...both male...one is a restaurant manager so eats at work all the time and brings home nice left overs...the polish guy is a talented carpenter and plumber so always does any diy jobs.....However...I did have one lodger who i asked to leave after about 6 months as he was a heavy drinker and smoker and i asked that he stopped smoking in his room and he didnt.. and never went to college etc....but he didnt cause me any real stress...
