Has anyone been granted planning permission to raise the roof height on a semi-detached property?

We need more space upstairs for a bathroom and extra study (both of us now wfh) - but I don’t think our loft spaces is high enough (210cm at its a highest point) and as we’re in a semi, I’ve assumed we’ll never get planning permission to raise the roof height - has anyone in a semi managed to do this?

Don’t really want to have to lower ceilings in rooms below given amount of work….

I think you might if the attached property did it too, as long as the extra height wasn't unwieldy.
I wouldn't even consider 'lowering ceilings' as the upstairs ceiling joists hold the roof structure into a triangle to stop the roof spreading.

How would this even be possible unless both sides did it? We’re semi and I’d think my neighbours had lost the plot if they said they were going to do it. I’d never agree due to the risk of compromising the structure.

Lowering the ceilings seems pretty standard from when we’ve looked into loft conversions. Can you get a loft specialist round to talk through your options?
