Tiling -is this ok or am I being too fussy?

Hi,

We’re having building work and it said tiling the bathroom was not included but we could get it down for £35 square metre. Not sure what the going rate is?

The builder (project manager) said he’d sort it and it turned out he was doing it himself. We had no reason to worry as the rest of his work has been great. Anyway it seems to us he’s not a tiler and we’re not very happy with it which is awkward. He’s put the grouting in yesterday and it looks worse, where they meet I assumed it’d look like a neat cross.
Anyway can you let me know if you think this is ok or are we being too fussy?

It’s not great to be honest.

Kitchendilemmas · 21/08/2021 19:39

Did he not use spacers? That would annoy me too, it's definitely not straight.

BitchIAmFromChicago · 21/08/2021 19:40

That would really annoy me!!

1idea · 21/08/2021 19:41

That’s awful tiling. I can see why you’d be so disappointed

Moonlaserbearwolf · 21/08/2021 19:41

Oh dear, he’s not a good tiler. You would be perfectly justified in telling him that you don’t like it.

mayblossominapril · 21/08/2021 19:42

Not good enough, I could do better myself. I suspect large tiles are harder than small ones though

Poppins2016 · 21/08/2021 19:43

No, that's not ok. It doesnt look as though spacers have been used... I could do a better looking job myself with only DIY experience!

Roselilly36 · 21/08/2021 19:43

No way would I accept that, appallingly bad for a professional tiler. You are definitely not being fussy.

PeasPeasPeasAreGoodForYou · 21/08/2021 19:44

No I wouldn't be happy with that

TeeBee · 21/08/2021 19:44

Oh no, that's not good at all. I'd be getting that back off again. It would endlessly get on my nerves.

Skinnydecafflatte · 21/08/2021 19:45

@Kitchendilemmas he did use spacers, just not very well it seems!

I’m glad it’s not just us that thinks that. We’re pretty laidback about most stuff but we really are not happy with it. We were trying to justify it and think it’ll be ok and just accept it but it will annoy me over time. It’s the first time we’ve had a new bathroom and I really don’t want to be annoyed by it!

Its not very good. And the dark grout just doesn't look right.

Blueuggboots · 21/08/2021 19:47

Oh no, I couldn't live with that!!!

VsgKitt · 21/08/2021 19:48

Nah. I'd be well pissed

Lindtnotlint · 21/08/2021 19:48

Not ok. Needs to be redone.

AlmostSummer21 · 21/08/2021 19:49

It's fine!

For a first attempt by a 10yo.

Professional you're paying -absolutely NOT

fruitbrewhaha · 21/08/2021 19:50

Oh shit no, I can't look at that. Awful. He needs to take it down and replace your tiles.

Skinnydecafflatte · 21/08/2021 20:11

Ok thanks for confirming, an awkward conversation needs to happen…

Daftasabroom · 21/08/2021 20:13

It's crap. Sorry.

Spysolation · 21/08/2021 20:15

V bad job. I’d be disappointed

PragmaticWench · 21/08/2021 20:20

That's bad. Can you toss a coin to see who gets to get out of having the conversation?

Summer20twentyone · 21/08/2021 20:25

That's really bad. Make sure you get it sorted, we had some shoddy tiling done, the tiler didn't come back, we didn't chase it up ... and I hate my new bathroom now 😟

Lampzade · 21/08/2021 21:11

It’s not straight
Don’t accept this shoddy work op

findtheirsocks · 22/08/2021 08:12

Not acceptable

Starseeking · 22/08/2021 08:24

Even he must know that's not ok! It all needs straightening, which means starting again. I'd pay someone else to do it, as that must be his best effort.
