Will more houses come on the market this year??

Please can I ask you to consult your crystal balls?!

I want to buy my first property but there is nothing (and I mean NOTHING) coming on the market within my budget (£150k - £250k, 2-3 bedrooms). I have been checking all the websites for the past two months, literally nothing suitable has come up at all since early July, and very few in June. I live in a rural area, and am searching within a 15 mile radius of the town I want to live in.

Do you think there will be more coming on the market in the Autumn??

Silly question, was it?

September is a popular time for people to list houses. Summer is usually much quieter. We are in the same position.

Nope not silly. No crystal, ball but the lack of supply has been due to stuff
not hanging around/high demand. People sell houses all year round but the market drops before Christmas I know.

I wonder too OP. The EAs are all crying of a dearth of properties to sell… but at some point those reasons NOT to sell will surely give way … I am also wondering WHEN.

First it was wait for brexit…
Then coronavirus
Then wait.. the economy hasn’t tanked yet but it’s in the post…

I don’t know!

Are you in the sort of area where 2-3 bedroom houses have started to move out of that price bracket and therefore there are less available? By me prices have gone up a lot and so you would have less options.

IamFrozen · 18/08/2021 23:39

I really hope you’re right WeRtheones and something shows up in September, I’m desperate to move out of my rental flat.

When I read about the housing shortage I almost panic that I’ve missed my chance forever - I know that’s silly, but it does feel that way when there is nothing for sale!

@Didiusfalco Difficult to say, the issue isn’t really that things are going fast, more that nothing’s being sold at all! I’d be happy with a roomy 2-bed terrace with a small garden, I think that my price range is very reasonable for what I want, I don’t live in a particularly expensive area. The only new things lately have been do-er uppers (which I don’t have the savings or skills for) and 4/5 bedroom houses (often also needing modernisation). There are also some flats, but I really want a garden.

Sadly the article I read today said high demand still for cheaper/smaller properties.

Delectable · 19/08/2021 00:18

Same. We've played around looking for 3beds to extend or 4 to 5bed already extended but nothing we like.

Overdon · 19/08/2021 18:55

Anything that comes on near me is over priced rubbish.

Oliveandsage · 19/08/2021 19:02

Our local area is like that - nothing really on the market at all. Just be ready to pounce when something does come on that you want!

PS where do you live where property is so reasonable? I’m so jealous!

Oliveandsage · 19/08/2021 19:03

@Overdon agree with this; nothing coming on under 500k in my village, for end of terrace 3 beds!!! 🙄 someone wanted £400k for a 2 bedroom bungalow that I remember used to be a garage not so long ago…

OswaldOwl · 19/08/2021 20:55

Sorry you’ve got the same problem @Oliveandsage. I’m in mid Wales!
