Hi, does anyone live here and can tell me a bit about it?

We are looking to put in an offer in a place called Foston. We have a baby, and would be really grateful if anyone could tell us a bit about play parks, ponds/lakes they visit with their young children?

Also, does anyone know much about nurseries/schools in the area?

Many thanks.

Foston is quite a tiny place - you might find you need to drive anywhere for schools or play areas, for instance Hatton or Tutbury. Will you find it a bit remote?
We have relatives in Tutbury and they really love it.

Thanks so much for answering. Yes, it’s tiny isn’t it - DP is dragging his heels a bit over that. But the house we’ve seen is gorgeous.

Do you know of any walks or parks and the like round there?

I dont know Foston other than to drive past it.
I'd be surprised if primary was closer the Scorton, and I suspect you would have to come to Burton (De Ferrers) for secondary.

There are loads of lovely bits of the national forest nearby, but youd need to get in the car to get there. There was a nice playground near the river in Tutbury.

Thank you!

I think our local primary would be Heathfields. Abbot Beyne possibly for secondary or John port if we go for state. Also independent schools may be an option.

I really appreciate your answer.

Foston and Tutbury are very separate villages. Foston sits right on the A50 and is in Derbyshire whereas Tutbury is in Staffordshire.
Secondary schools you'd look at would be John Port in Hilton, de Ferrers or possibly John Taylor.
Foston as a village is tiny and you'd need a car to get almost anywhere like shops, parks, doctors, dentist or pubs. All of these would be a 10 minute car journey away.
I grew up in Tutbury so ask away.

Thanks. I think that’s what is niggling DP, he likes the fact that where we are now there’s a little play park and lots of nice walks but we both have cars and use them.

Do you know the local primaries at all?

It would be Hatton, Draycott in the Clay or maybe even Doveridge for those. Sudbury used to have a primary school but it closed. I would bear in mind though that the A50 regularly has accidents and gets jammed so I wouldn't rely on that as a route for anywhere you need to get to. With that in mind your best primary would be Hatton which feeds into John Port at Etwall.

Thanks (again.)

I work in Derby, not far from the city hospital - had ds there. It’s fairly handy for that but I think DP wants more of a village feel. I understand that but it’s a lovely house …
