Why can't I get to the corner

We have recently moved and have a utility room! (yay)
However the storage is v strange. Its built in base units from Howdens but we can't get into the massive area in the corner. Hard to describe but there is a slim cupboard each side of the base corner, but none of them slide round into the space that we know is there. Does that make sense? Why would they have done this? Could we retrofit something to be able to access this storage space?

you'll probably need to take the cupboard out.

You could try cutting removing the side of the cupboard to access the space, but it will look untidy

Can you get one of those carousel fittings?

Please post a picture, I NEED to see what you are talking about. Maybe they built it around something they wanted to hide?

Cut the counter top and put hinge on so it lifts.
Then you can keep taller things in there safely like a mop and bucket or a hoover.

Might there be pipework or something in the void?

@StCharlotte

Can you get one of those carousel fittings?
you can fit these retrospectively, but it sounds as if the Op can't get into the space. I other words two cupboards have been put in, with a space between which is inaccessible
