What colour front door?

We are getting a new composite front door and I need to pick the colour this weekend. It’s a 1930s house. What colour would you get?

I'd avoid red, because it fades in sunlight; and black, because it gets very hot in bright sun which shortens life of the material and can cause the door to stick or creak.

If its protected by a porch, have whatever you want. White needs washing more often (car shampoo and a soft brush and lots of water to rinse).

Yellow or green.

Guiltypleasures001 · 14/08/2021 15:54

Ours is anthracite

Mirrorxx · 14/08/2021 16:01

I was leaning towards dark dark or midnight grey

In the 1930s colours like red, dark blue and racing green or dark green were popular. I opted for dark blue and it looks really nice.

Very dark blue/ navy.

I went for this, it was a very light stone colour before (not painted by me, moved here recently)

I love it, although I got on my own nerves choosing a colour.

I think deep purple doors are absolutely gorgeous.

Scandimandy · 14/08/2021 16:45

Our current front door is a dusty blue but it’s going dusky pink next time - 1930’s bungalow

Starseeking · 14/08/2021 16:47

Dark green or dark blue always looks lovely.

GoodnightGrandma · 14/08/2021 16:50

I’d go with a colour that fits with the house’s age.

I had a beautiful duck egg blue one on our 1930s house. My next one will be pale pink.

Lots of 1930s houses round my area , the main colour is white .
But a lot of dark grey especially with the small square windows in a verticle line and a long bar door handle .

Sage green is pretty .

RuthTopp · 14/08/2021 22:34

Ours is a very dark green , it's a Roc door.

Jasmine11 · 14/08/2021 23:21

Dark purple is the colour we are going for on our 1920's house with this door knocker

Thisnamewasnttaken123 · 14/08/2021 23:24

I saw a lovely older house with a dusky pink door the other day and it looked amazing.

Think about the colour of your bricks - red bricks look lovely with green doors and not so lovely with anything with a pinkish tone which clashes with the brick. Similarly I always think yellow bricks look nicest with soft and dusky pinks, blues, greens. If your house is rendered and painted then perhaps you have more choices.
