Gas or induction hob?

You all helped me realise we only need a built under single oven so treating ourselves to a fancy Neff oven. Do I want a gas hob as we have now, or is induction better?? I like the look of induction hobs, but bloody BIL told DH they’re annoying and ‘never again’!

Those of you complaining about the beeping from induction hobs - I used to find it really irritating. Then I read the instruction manual and realised you can turn the noise alerts off. Game changer!

Induction. I will never go back to Gas. Mine is at the cheaper end of the scale and still boils a very large pan of water in 1 min 30 seconds. There are no negatives to induction in my opinion.
You can't use an induction hob during a power cut.

But I appreciate that's probably a fairly niche situation for a negative!

Believe it or not that was one of the reasons I hesitated at first!

We have a one ring camping gas stove for emergencies, purchased after Storm Desmond when we had no mains electric for a week along with the rest of the city. Fun times.

So why when I use them does the heat keep cutting out? I’ve used two induction hobs and they both did it.

It could be various reasons. I havnt got my induction installed yet but from reading the manual on mine it could be
  • the hob itself detecting if the pan is too hot
-the pan is moved out of the ring area and the hob detects it and turns itself off
  • cheap and midrange hobs decrease the power of some rings when others are being used

When you say the heat is cutting off what do you mean?

At lower temperatures the heat setting will stay on and the power click on and off periodically because its constantly adjusting to keep it at the selected heat setting.

If the ring is turning itself off and the heat setting number disappears then something is wrong? Only happens here if the pan boils over or the cat walks along the controls and turns the ring or whole hob off 🙄

Are you sure they are not halogen rather than induction?

I find the heat just keeps dropping away so it's really difficult to boil water or keep anything at a consistent heat. Maybe they were halogen cookers but i don't think so.
