@MrsYip all these 'I wouldn't live in Wythenshawe if you paid me' I bet they've never step foot near the place, or atleast they haven't in the last 10 years.
I will tell you my experience of living in Wythenshawe. I've been here for 2 years now and live in the Sharston/Crossacres area.
I grew up in Cheadle Hulme which is a lovely area, fairly middle class and moved from there to Wythenshawe as a first time buyer. I was really worried about it! I won't lie. But it's been great! My road is nice and quiet, I've not had any trouble, I've not heard of any crime and certainly haven't seen or heard of any gangs! I haven't seen any drug use, haven't seen anyone with obvious mental health problems either. Infact, everyone's been lovely and welcoming.
I haven't heard anyone be racist. My street is quite diverse, there's a lovely community feel but I don't necessarily know my neighbours very well, we aren't in each other's pockets iyswim. They're more than happy to take packages in and say hello, that kind of thing.
We bought cheap and renovated, in 2 years our house has increased in value by 80k. We only spent 25k on the renovation.
You're close to the hospital and airport, there's the civic centre which has great local shops and supermarkets. I suppose some would say the civic centre is a bit rough, but I'm in and out so it doesn't bother me. There are parts of Stockport which are much much worse.
The school nearest to me is Ofsted rated Outstanding.
The most negative thing I've heard is one of my neighbours shout at her kids when they were playing out in Summer. No big deal.
Just wanted to offer another perspective. There is quite a negative perception of Wythenshawe, and I'm not sure why. I think there are better and worse parts, but the houses are cheap for what you get and the area is honestly fine.
I love being able to hop on the tram and be in town in 40 mins, it's so easy. A drive into town takes 20/25 mins. It's 10 mins into Stockport, 20 mins to the Trafford centre.
