No off road parking for removal truck

I've recently had a quote from a removal company who say that in order to do our house move we've got to arrange for then to be able to park. We live on a terraced road with no parking restrictions and tbh parking is a bit of a nightmare . The company said that the Council would be able to sort it but the Council dont seem to be up for helping. Has anyone else had any experience of this or any advice?!?!

There are special permits available for skip bins...so I imagine it's the same here. What county are you in? I'll have a look.

Would you be able to park yours/someone’s cars in the space they’ll need and then move them when the removal van comes? Might take several moves and not ideal but could work.

Can you not just park a coupe of cars outside your house with a bit of a gap between them. Then when the movers turn up move the cars so the removers can park there.

I had this exact same problem. And a one way street to boot. I phoned the Council and they weren't interested and said to just double park. So my removal van blocked the road for two hours accompanied by angry horn blowing, swearing and vehicles having to reverse back up the road.

I note they don't do it where parking is 'free' though.

Yes we've had exactly this, in fact it happens every time someone moves in/out on our terrace street. I don't know if this is the technically correct thing and obviously it's not 100% reliable, but our etiquette is that you knock on the doors of all your neighbours a few days before and let them know, then the day before you hover like a hawk and bagsy a space outside or reasonably near your house as soon as it becomes available. That is half the space you need for the truck, ideally you have an understanding neighbour who will block a space in front or behind you and move their car when the truck comes, if not then obtain some traffic cones and make a little sign saying 'space required on XXX date for removal truck, please leave free' and put them in the space as soon as it comes free. I've found even in our high traffic area with nightmare parking people respect that and don't park there (so long as you don't take the piss of course).

Yeah I think that's the issue with the Council - there are no current restrictions on our road so they say they cant help. Its Sefton Council. We're only a one car family and our immediate neighbour's dont drive either so cant help. We could potentially block one space but that's not going to be big enough. I dont think there are any easy solutions to this one

Have you got an understanding nearby relative or friend that would lend you their car overnight to block a second space (if you pay for a taxi to/from your house)? Otherwise you'll just have to park your car as selfishly as possible so as to take up two spaces, and/or use the traffic cones?

Yeah I did think of that - I've got a fair few friends who are WFH at the moment and dont really use their car on weekday so depending on when it was this could work. Or could prob borrow my dads car and my partner would just have to move both cars our of way as soon the truck turns up.
