Copper worktop

We’re considering getting a copper worktop for our kitchen. I was wondering if anyone has one and how you find it? Would you have one again?

Thanks so much 👍🏼

I haven't got one, but I know copper is really quite soft. Wouldn't a copper countertop scratch very easily?

WeAreTheHeroes · 03/08/2021 20:04

It'll tarnish and discolour, it won't stay shiny.

Mamamamasaurus · 03/08/2021 20:06

It sounds very lovely to look but nothing beyond - it'll scratch and dent SOOOO easily

Aquamarine1029 · 03/08/2021 20:08

That would be a terrible idea. Copper is far too soft to use as a worktop. It would be covered in scratches and dents in no time.

I don’t know if the downsides are real or imagined but I have to say they are beautiful op, I’m sure they are made to be fit for purpose.

I found this which might help with your decision...

Thanks all for comments - we actually like the oxidised and battered look of them once they’ve been worn in.

@Aquamarine1029 we’ve been in touch with those guys for our kitchen!

In India my mother in law has what is probably a century old copper worktop at her ancestral home. It is battered, doesn’t really look like metal any more, but otherwise she loves it. Apparently it keeps insects at bay and is easier to clean than polished concrete / stone. I can’t vouch for the latter as I never cleaned them but that kitchen was definitely the only one in the vicinity without even an ant in it.

Traditional bar tops are copper. Apparently it has some sort of innate anti-bac quality.

WeAreTheHeroes · 04/08/2021 06:58

I thought bar tops were traditionally zinc?

Livingintheclouds · 04/08/2021 08:00

I’d like the weathered look built up from use but not the staining. An individual taste for sure but I do believe people should have what makes them happy in their own home!

Warmduscher · 04/08/2021 08:02

Would it not make your kitchen look a bit like a bar, OP? Unless that’s the look you’re going for!

Bluntness100 · 04/08/2021 08:31

It won’t look like a bar, they really are lovely . If you scroll down there’s on e on this page
