Carpenter ruined door

Evening all - after getting new carpet fitted, I forgot to line up a carpenter to shave the doors to fit over the new carpet. I posted an ad on mybuilder and got a guy to come over the same day.

He shaved 5 doors and I paid him cash (£30 a door) and he left quite quickly (we had guests so I'd left him to get on with the job). Later I had a look at the doors and he's done an awful job.

One of the doors to an ensuite is cut about 4cm from the floor 😭 It's awful!! I can see the tiles. The other doors are really poorly done too (rough edges, sharp splinters at the bottom).

I don't want to engage with the original guy. I was stupid to get someone I don't know, wasn't recommended and I didn't oversee or check before he left.

Unfortunately the doors aren't similar to anything on the market, so I can't replace just the damaged door.

Will it be possible to get another carpenter to build up the bathroom door again? They're oak, but I'm planning to paint them anyway.

Thank you.

Can you not just attach a strip to the bottom, fill the gaps, sand then paint?

CatherinedeBourgh · 02/08/2021 20:22

Yes, should be able to get someone to add a strip.

Just get a recommended guy. Yes he can add a strip to badly shaved door.

Thanks all. I really panicked seeing it. What a cock up. He also got oil marks (presumably from the hinges) on my new carpet. Such a disaster!
