Seller lying about neighbours?

purpleme12 · 01/08/2021 20:43

What comeback do I have???
Please anyone
We weren't made aware of this awful next door neighbour I've had to call the police on
It's just me and my daughter and it was supposed to be a new start for us, a good thing. And it's ruined and I wish I'd never moved here please help

PotteringAlong · 01/08/2021 20:44

They only had to tell you if they had reported it. If they didn’t, and just moved instead, they had to mention it.

PotteringAlong · 01/08/2021 20:44

Sorry, if they just moved they didn’t have to mention it

DogsSausages · 01/08/2021 20:45

The seller may not have had an issue with them so not declared it, what sort of trouble are they causing, did the police have any advice.

purpleme12 · 01/08/2021 21:10

Really? They only have to put it down if they reported it to the police themselves?
😢

He was shouting and screaming at us the other evening calling us awful names and banging really hard on the kitchen window. Saying more things to his friends about us in daylight 2 days after.
Really aggressive and intimidating behaviour

Some of the neighbours said they don't like him and they've had problems with him before and the police know him.
But I guess I don't know if he ever took against the seller of the property and directed any of this to her although surely she must have known and him being aggressive and intimidating to people

purpleme12 · 01/08/2021 21:11

No the police didn't have any advice 😞
I haven't had an update from them on their enquiries
I don't know how far this person will go 😢

Do you honestly think the selling is going to say' well, the house is lovely, but they neighbours are complete A holes. They make noise ALL the time, scream and shout etc etc ??? Hmm

As others have said, I thought they only 'have' to disclose ongoing legal disputes or police reports. What does your solicitor say?

purpleme12 · 01/08/2021 21:18

Ok sorry

OP posts:
DogsSausages · 01/08/2021 21:28

Poor you, it must have been very frightening. You can ask your solicitor if they were made aware of any issues, I would contact the police with the incident number and ask them what can be done.

purpleme12 · 01/08/2021 21:30

It was scary and I hate this house
I've never lived next to anyone like this
I'm so sad and worried and upset

I've logged it with the police but I feel so hopeless 😢

I think the OP could do with a little kindness and sympathy right now. Not sarcastic emojis.
purpleme12 · 01/08/2021 21:32

I don't even hate the house it's a lovely house but I'm so down and worried about how far he'll go

AlternativePerspective · 01/08/2021 21:33

Unfortunately unless they have made a complaint to the police etc they don’t have to declare it.

To that end, the fact that you have made a report means that if you sell this house then you will have to declare it, which could put future potential buyers off.

WhingyNinja · 01/08/2021 21:36

I'm sorry you're dealing with this OP, what a horrible thing to have to deal with when you've just moved house!

As per previous posters I don't think the seller has to declare any neighbour issues if they haven't been reported but I could be wrong!

You've done the right thing contacting the police. I'm sorry I don't have any additional advice other than reporting them every time they pull any shit like that again. Sad

DogsSausages · 01/08/2021 21:37

Your other neighbours sound okay, can you make friends with them. Do you have friends in the area or groups you can join to meet new people. Was he banging on your kitchen window or his, the police need to advise you, every time he kicks off you call them.

jillandhersprite · 01/08/2021 21:38

I'm so sorry you've ended up in such a horrible situation.
Unfortunately all you can do is follow up on every incident, log everything and I would recommend getting CCTV installed. Try to avoid direct engagement with him while gathering your evidence in the hope that some kind of restraining order can be made...

purpleme12 · 01/08/2021 21:40

Thank you
The other neighbours came to see if we were ok
But these are right next door they're always out front it's so uncomfortable and awkward and awful to be honest.
He spits on our garden. He pours the remnants of his beer on our garden. He doesn't care.
And I can't get it all out of my head 😢

This. It’s often recommended that people don’t report for this reason, sadly, because it’s only declarable if they reported - and there’s nothing to say that the neighbour ever did anything to your seller.

I hope the police can help you - at least now that you’ve reported, you’ve got nothing to lose by continuing to do so, so you can push for a solution of some kind.

lannistunut · 01/08/2021 21:44

I just wanted to say I'm so very sorry this has happened to you Flowers

purpleme12 · 01/08/2021 21:44

It's too much for someone to deal with 😢

Oh OP, that sounds so awful. Feeling so scared in your own home.

PPs have good advice - get cctv if you can, a Ring doorbell as a minimum, keep a record of absolutely everything and report all the worst to the police. Do they own their house? If they're tenants then find out who their landlords are and report every single incident to them.

DogsSausages · 01/08/2021 21:49

I would put up a security camera on your property and a ring doorbell. You need to gather evidence, he sounds a real jerk. Is there a wall or large hedge separating you and his front gardens.

GrrRightBackAtYou · 01/08/2021 21:50

You need to find out if the seller did contact the police or council about the neighbour but then lied about it when selling to you. So sorry you are going through this Flowers

So sorry to hear this OP. You just reminded me of my own thread I started a while ago where a dispute WAS declared but the owners said it was resolved and weren't at all forthcoming.

Not much I can add other than the great advice already given here xx

Bobholll · 01/08/2021 21:52

Can you afford to just sell up & cut your losses OP? Anyway you can? I mean, it’s not going to be an easy sell but maybe one of those we buy any house scenarios?

Or maybe give it some time - what on Earth provoked him to be ranting & yelling at you? It can’t have come out of the blue, he saw you in the garden & just started being angry?! What was the context? What made him so angry? It’s a bit confusing without context. I’m not saying his behaviour is excusable at all but there has to be more to this story that may be resolvable?

We had some really shitty neighbours once & I went out of my way to be friendly & smile & wave even though I hated them. Just figured I’d rather be on their good side than bad! It worked, they left us alone.

HollowTalk · 01/08/2021 21:53

God, I'd be really tempted to rent a room for nothing to the biggest body builder I could find and see whether they change their tune.
