Seller lying about neighbours?

purpleme12 · 01/08/2021 20:43

What comeback do I have???
Please anyone
We weren't made aware of this awful next door neighbour I've had to call the police on
It's just me and my daughter and it was supposed to be a new start for us, a good thing. And it's ruined and I wish I'd never moved here please help

Thank you
I'll look at the links
Perhaps I'll have to get CCTV or something I just need the money
There's no fence between the front gardens but our front garden is only small if we had a fence there I'm not sure if we'd get any sunlight but maybe it's something we should do....
The back fence he did (I know this because they were nice before he went off on one) but in the property information form it said it's my responsibility. It's not very high so could look into possibilities so can't look in...

You won't get anywhere with the seller, but every time this person intimidates you, ring 999 and report it. You sound like you are in fear so it is completely justified.
Also start reporting to the council (I'm making a leap here that they are not owner occupiers & are likely socially housed)

tedsletterofthelaw · 01/08/2021 21:59

Do the neighbours own the house or do they rent/LA?

crazycatgal · 01/08/2021 21:59

Hope you're OK OP.

Did these neighbours start this behaviour towards you when you moved in?

Astella22 · 01/08/2021 22:02

If you can build a fence between your drive and his then do it sooner rather then later. Yes you shouldn’t have to but nipping it in the bud now will save you slot of stress.
You have my sympathies OP

purpleme12 · 01/08/2021 22:02

They own so it's not so easy 😢

No not when we moved in. We were outside hanging out with them and everything then one evening he started on someone across the street then it turned on us. So I wasn't expecting it

I thought I was doing right by my daughter buying this house I feel like I've let her down 😢😢😢

Contact the anti social behaviour officer at your local council, they can support you including providing cctv to gather evidence. If you have a neighbourhood policing team then you can contact them too. Anti social behaviour is a big thing currently and there are lots of resources to tackle it.

user1471538283 · 01/08/2021 22:15

Log everything and keep reporting it or put it up for sale now. He sounds unhinged or an addict to suddenly turn on you.

You could put up high fences.
I know how you feel. Having horrible neighbors can destroy your life.

justasmalltownmum · 01/08/2021 22:24

Cctv
High fences
Front fence
Ring doorbell

Panickingpavlova · 01/08/2021 22:28

I thought it was council complaints not police?

Panickingpavlova · 01/08/2021 22:29

As pp said can you sell, dramatic but safer perhaps

purpleme12 · 01/08/2021 22:33

I could only buy this house with my mum and stepdad's help there no way I can afford to move at the minute.
I wish there was someone living here with us 😢

OP, contact your solicitors who helped you with the purchase.

Explain what's happened and ask them for a copy of the question and answer document.

Your solicitor will have asked a question about noisy neighbours. You need to see what the question was and how the sellers responded.

Check the exact wording of the question and the answer. If they have told a lie in their answer, ask your solicitors for advice. You might be able to get money out of the sellers for lying about the rowdy neighbour.

Good luck!

Overdon · 01/08/2021 22:40

Could you rent your house out OP? ( preferably to group of partying students).

Your other neighbours sound sympathetic, it might be worth probing them to see if previous owner (or anyone else) has reported the scumbag before.

It is a nightmare when you have vile neighbours. I had a crack addict neighbour with a vicious dog, it really does affect your well-being when you can’t relax at home. DS was very young at the time. We were renting so just had to leave in the end

Popetthetreehugger · 01/08/2021 22:49

Your insurance company may give you legal cover to pursue this if previous owner lied . Good luck 💐

People are being really mean on this thread.

I am so sorry you are going through this, it must be dreadful. And so upsetting when you had been so excited about your lovely new home.

Take a look at the property information form the seller of your house filled in - TA6 if you are in the UK I think.

Have a look and see of these questions were included, and what the answers were

The seller should provide information about any existing disputes. This could include the cause of the dispute (for example, complaints relating to noise) and any action taken to resolve matters. The seller should also provide information about disputes that have arisen in the past.

The seller should provide information about anything that could lead to a dispute in the future.

Did the seller know about this? Can you prove it? If so speak to your solicitor. May not be worth the hassle though, but you are right they should have declared it.

surreygirl1987 · 01/08/2021 23:20

I have no advice but just wanted to say that I'm really sorry that this is happening. It sounds awful. Please ignore the meanness from others on the thread.

EccentricaGalumbits · 01/08/2021 23:27

Was it just that one time he went off on you or has he been difficult since?
I only ask because I'm hoping maybe he was out of it in some way and things might return to normal.

PersonaNonGarter · 01/08/2021 23:29

Get a scary dog

Mischance · 01/08/2021 23:30

How awful - I am so sorry this is happening to you.

Queenie6655 · 01/08/2021 23:33

I'm sorry there have got to be some solution to this

Why on earth is he doing this?

You have rights too

This is shocking

Saidtoomuch · 01/08/2021 23:40

Awful situation to be in. Don't engage with him at all. Have CCTV and report to the police every single time he tries to intimidate you. Log everything like spitting and pouring beer into your garden as its important and builds a picture.

purpleme12 · 01/08/2021 23:40

It was one time and two days after he said a couple of comments about us to his friends while I was in earshot and he has reported me to the council for having seen rats in my property/garden a couple of days after all this. (I don't know it was him but how can it not be?)
I have checked and can't see any rats. Which is why he worries me as well

Two other neighbours said they don't like him and one's had problems with him in the past and had to call the police on him. So I'm assuming he takes to people or doesn't and then finds things to pick on

I don't know the outcome of any previous police involvement or anything though

We moved in 3 weeks ago
My friend is coming to stay this week I'm so happy someone will be with me
They are having a party on Saturday .I know this from when they were nice to me. I'm so worried about if any trouble will come if it

StarlingsDarlings · 01/08/2021 23:48

Any time he is threatening or abusive to you call 999. You are a lone woman and he is an aggressive thug. This isn’t your fault and you haven’t let your DD down. Getting CCTV will be invaluable, please do this as a matter of urgency, even if it means borrowing the money off your family.

beigebrownblue · 01/08/2021 23:54

@purpleme12

It was scary and I hate this house I've never lived next to anyone like this I'm so sad and worried and upset

I've logged it with the police but I feel so hopeless 😢

This is tough hon, as single mother myself I get it.

But you need to grow a set of balls.

Phone police and get an incident number.

Escalate it if needed.

Get incident number every time.
