Sockets and light switch query

soupdragon321 · 30/07/2021 12:32

Having extra bedroom extension. All electrical sockets will be brushed chrome. However the bedside lights are glass and brass. Should I get a brass 3way dimmer switch to match the lights, or stick with chrome dimmer switch to match the rest of room? Smile

Brass dimmer. Plus why not get brass brushed sockets too?

soupdragon321 · 30/07/2021 12:59

Cost mainly, plus the other light switches are also brushed chrome

Is there a compromise colour? A silvery gold?

PigletJohn · 30/07/2021 13:35

you match the room, not the rest of the house.

soupdragon321 · 30/07/2021 14:11

Piglet, so you think the dimmer should be chrome to match the rest of the room?

Mosaics no compromise colour I’m afraid. Cannot afford anything special as budget is blown already Shock

I'd get the light switch to match the lights, and have the sockets in white. Presumably they are in places where you can't really see them anyway?

Chrome light switch would be odd, and if everything else is chrome it will make the lights look like they don't fit.

PigletJohn · 30/07/2021 14:59

I'm quite happy with white switches and sockets, but if you want metal, I'd match the doorknob, the window latches, the electical sockets and switches, the wall lamps, the door stop, and any oddments like coat hooks, towel rails, toothbrush holders (obv if a bathroom).

I think a dull finish is less garish than bright polished.

Livingintheclouds · 30/07/2021 15:03

Personally hate metal sockets and switches and use white throughout so it doesn’t matter about matching the actual lamp.

Rainbowshit · 30/07/2021 17:39

i would have all sockets and switches in brass to match the lights.

soupdragon321 · 30/07/2021 19:14

Thanks everyone, think we’re going to go for white everywhere and then maybe brass dimmer for the lights, or just white dimmer too. Talk about first world problems. Am fed up with thinking about it tbh!

@soupdragon321 I'm driving myself potty with the exact same (first world) issue at the moment. I don't like mixing finishes.

I love brushed brass light fittings, but they would clash with polished chrome switches I've got throughout the house. I think keeping a particular room in the brass makes sense

mayblossominapril · 30/07/2021 21:39

I would go for white plastic, much cheaper and they won’t clash with anything. In the houses I’ve lived in I’ve always had white plastic
