My issue is related to the building work that was started on 17/01/2021. It's an extension/loft conversion and also all most whole house as chimneys are also removed. I was told by my builder that if I gave my empty house, he will finish the job in 4 months. I have moved out and it has been 6 months and work is nowhere near finish. The whole property is not liveable. I had a quote of £135000 for this work and then he raised as building material have gone up. I agreed further £10000. I have already paid him £120,000. He has been working really slow and 1 day a week or no work at all. He is not giving finish date or any indication when this work will complete. He is very aggressive and hard to talk to him. We are five in the family and we both work in NHS and living in a shed with kids at the back of the property. The site is not safe to live with the kids but we can't afford to live out as we are paying for the mortgage with extra loan taken and also saving the additional money for this work to finish. He didn’t even hire a toilet for the builders, they were using garden. We have hired toilet that we have to share with the builders as no choice, he said he will get toilet for the builder but he never did to this date. I have 13 years old boy and 10-year girl and also 18 years old girl and both of us forced to live in a Shed.
He has new guys who are doing the job but very poor quality now as I have taken some video. He doesn’t answer phone. His workers turn up to work have no tools and no stock to work. I had to buy some of the items for them on my credit card. The most of the time, they will leave the site as no stocks for them to work. I don’t see any way out of this situation, I am really worried as kids are off from school and he has been promising us from past 3 months that he will get the loft ready so we can move there. However, I don’t have much communication with him. I sent letter to his company email address and he got angry. Can you please help me to way out of this? I want some of the money back from £120,000 paid advance so I can get another builder to complete this job as I have completely lost faith in him.
