How to clean grime and dirt from bare floorboards?

Moving into a house and the previous owners have left it in a horrid state as they had no flooring down and were filthy
The bare floorboards are covered in dirt and built up grime and I have no idea how to clean them before I lay carpets and laminate flooring down
Any ideas would be gratefully appreciated 🙂

Start with a good vacuum, Henry is good at these jobs or his wet and dry big brother. Then mop but don’t wet them too much. That should lift quite a bit of dirt. Anything stuck on scrap off with a scraper
Sometimes a scrubbing brush with detergent will work well.
If all else fails sand them a bit.

And you may have to replace the odd floorboard round the loo for example as it’s the only way to get rid of certain smells.

Try mopping it using laundry washing powder in the water. Will lift a lot more than using washing up liquid.
