Hit me with some ideas for this basement ‘den’ please!

This is going to be the kids chill out room (especially as the 10yo will only have a box room for a bedroom). It’s a basement but it has some light. What colours might make it feel more cheerful? Would anyone carpet it to make it warmer? Any ideas for good flat pack furniture as we won’t be able to get much down the narrow staircase!?

Sorry no advice as have same questions! I painted mine Sulking Room pink. Do quite like it but it's missing something...! I think the lighting needs some work. Bump!

Oh and I really like the colour on your walls already.

We have a very similar basement room and we bought a flat pack sofa from Nabru which was brilliant because we could choose exactly what size would fit in the space. Plus, it was really easy to get down the stairs and put together.

I'd go for a bright and cheerful colour. Keep the floors.. better for spills, stains ,keeping clean plus it's a nice and warm colour. You can always add some rugs, throws, cushions. You need some bean bags or a sofa.

As for furniture, depends what you need and what kind of stuff you're looking for.

The colour is what the current owners have - I do really like it but think it needs something a bit lighter. I was thinking a bright, dark pink or a turquoise maybe. I need something that will last a few years as the kids grow up!

Thanks for the sofa tip, off to investigate them!

Definitely carpet for noise and comfort. Colours up to you (or get your child’s input). Definitely a good idea to invest in a teenage chill out zone!

It looks perfect as it is!

As is, it’s a bar Grin Though I’m sure the future teenagers will appreciate that!

The current owners have definitely done a good job so I can picture it as a useful room. I just think it needs a little warming up for younger children. I think we might put a carpet down

if it is really the kids den, let them paint it & decorate it with posters / stickers / favourite movie characters etc. If it looks silly, they can do it again a year or two later.

Ikea modular sofa in boxes. Projector and screen. Bold dark colour - it's never going to be truly light down there so embrace your inner home cinema...
